If only it was so simple.
If only my wishes for greatness could be answered.
But I am born of the lowest of bloods, heir to no fortune, carved out from my own determination.
Unwittingly, I stepped foot out in these lands.
A simple gadget, a banner representing an empire which long ago started its decay.
I do not have loyalty to them.
I have it to their people.
To the knowledge they bring.
To how they can enable what I need.
They are not the only ones, however.
Any who share what I need have my utmost gratitude.
For,
if this world has been created by the divine;
if this world's disgraces have been spurred on by demons;
if this suffering is the byproduct of otherworldly will...
If any god has decided that we are to be mortal;
If any god feels themselves out of death's reach;
I will make us closer to the divine.
Even if it is only by making them share our fear of death.
