The Raising of Tarkova's Treasures - Flump - 03-26-2024 "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Commander Tarkova, what folly...and yet, such an admirable cause, no? To delve headfirst into danger to save one's comrades, dreaming of the heroic crushing of the Enemy in Esshar in one swift, fell blow. It wasn't to be, though. The attack stalled, lingered, wallowed, Alpha-Omega Forward Operating Base turned from a military establishment into a city. Truly, a veritable banquet for the demons that came afterwards. With no way to return home - branded traitors as Tarkova and her legions were by Barsburg, identified as kill or capture on sight - they remained, the advanced technology they brandished ranging from suits of powered armour capable of acting as a mobile weapons platform, to railguns, heavy machineguns, rifles, and more. Kassius Astalet has received ample information on the topic from his trusted tutor, her intelligence and wit ever feeding his craving for knowledge. Within the shattered remains of Alpha-Omega FOB lies a trove of magitech - and, most likely, tomes retaining the knowledge on how to construct such glorious reminders of the past. He aims to assemble a small expedition team to delve into these fel-stained ruins, locate all relevant tomes, weapons, equipment, and armour, and leave triumphant. Such wonders of artificery must be his. Ah, but if only life were so easy! Whispers tell of a clever tech-sergeant that became a lieutenant through their skill and expertise. The dearth of able bodies in a militaristic city-state surrounded by foes led to this peculiar lieutenant resorting to the extreme. Necromancy. Aiming to supplement Tarkova's forces in the battles they endured, this necromancy gave birth to numerous undead - troops unable to be routed, fighting to the last man, always. Perhaps, these rumours say, the remnants of those unspeakable undead lie still beneath the ruins, waiting for their next target, loyal in their defence of Alpha-Omega was they ever were. They speak of a perverse blend of artificery and necromancy, of experiments locked in cages and tubes, of twisted, horrific monstrosities barely resembling human, implemented as shock troops, now withering and wailing in the otherwise empty halls. One can only hope such abyssal creatures no longer haunt the ruins of Alpha-Omega FOB, yet...that is not dead which can eternal lie. Attendees: Kassius Astalet and three other compatriots.
