The Renouncing - Jess - 03-05-2020

Word soon spreads from Theria, the words of a Noble-born woman, renouncing all she had ever been.

A few messengers were sent to deliver word, to the proper authorities, and to the Castle itself should the one carrying it be allowed to enter, though that didn't stop more from spreading the information by word of mouth. All of them would deliver the same or similar words, and perhaps a few would even note the star-shape branded onto the chest of the woman who sent them.
Quote:
"I'll get to the important part first I suppose... I, Alyssa cos D'Arnette as the head of my house, renounce my title and claims as a noble. All of my holdings and the estate are to be returned to the Crown until such time one of my braver cousins comes to claim it, or it is claimed by another house."

"Those who hear this, both directly and indirectly will likely ask.. 'Why?'. 'Why would a noble renounce such a thing? They were handed everything... why turn it away when the silver spoon was already in your grasp?'"

"The answers to those questions are simple. I grew tired.. tired of watching people murdered 'legally' in the name of the Order, and the Queen. When I was fifteen I witnessed the capture, and then the execution of Kirai Kurokaiyo, the man who would have been my father-in-law. The Order came for him with a rather long list of charges, all but one had been cleared or his dues paid.. Instead he was charged, or re-charged in the case of most, with all of them and killed publicly before his children."

"Though that was simply the beginning, more and more occurred over the years... Stories of children murdered instead of cleansed of Occultism, and it only begins there. I couldn't stand it any longer, but nor could I stand against those who committed these acts lest that 'righteous' slaying hand turn towards me. So I left once the snows cleared, and Theria was opened. I came here to find my place away from it all."

"I don't regret my actions, I've had the best years of my life in this snow-blasted city of mercenaries.. A place where the killers at least admit what they are, and where one can truly be themselves."

"If you seek true freedom..? You won't find it behind those shining walls, nor behind the swords of the Order. It drove me mad attempting to do just that."

Those who receive the letters could note they were signed with a new signature.
