Heirs of the Aubreen Household - Status(P)quo(d) - 09-21-2025

Around the Duchy of Arcadia, a flock of peculiar children have become a more common sight...

 While many children do call Arcadia their home, these ones were different. They were in the company of the Duchess and Duke-Consort, or escorted by House Stewards, or seen spending time in and around the orphanage that the Ducal Estate has been partially converted into. 

Though not kept in secrecy, the existence of these children were not particularly advertised for reasons never clearly stated to the public at large. Still, as they have continued to age, it has become less and less of a secret, as open as it may have been in the first place. The world becomes more open to them, but so, too, do they open to the world - for better or for worse.

The Aubreen Family Grows.

The matriarch and guide, your mother has taken a great deal of time to attend to you in your younger years. As you grew older, however, she has gradually returned back to her many duties, so often spending days on aiding and teaching others, organizing charity works, and otherwise administrating the city. She has taken a great deal to teach you about a great wealth of subjects, though she has taken history and religion most seriously. Whilst the favour for Koretheia has been present in such education, your mother has not been shy to teach you about the wider Pantheon. One might forgive her biases in her account, however.

Scarcely ever spoiling, she has set a high standard throughout your childhood, but never tried to be too demanding. At the very least, she has made certain that you will not walk out of the house an unmannered ruffian at eleven years old.

YOUR FATHER

Once your mother returned to her office to tend to the Duchy, your father started taking on the reins of your education (much to her concern). His hands-on work in the Clinic often meant late hours spending time with him as he toiled over the living and dead alike. When your father had the time to teach, he always made it an interesting lesson to say the least. You likely realized early on that he is a very peculiar person with a very peculiar reputation.

That ISN'T to say he left you unloved and unprepared- While your mother handled more worldly subjects in your education, your father took to teaching you about his work: The human body (inside and out), animals, magical herbs, the dangers of the wild, survival, and the basics of self-defense (once you were old enough to use magic) to name a few. He also made it a point never to discuss religion with you.

... Additionally, your physical health has always been a subject of concern for your father. Whether you were born sick or no (doubtful, considering your heritage), he spent a great deal of his off-hours examining your blood and vital signs.


Growing up in the Aubreen Household Wrote:While you were raised strict, you were still raised with love. Your mother taught you to do your chores diligently and thoroughly. Your father taught you to take shortcuts. Your mother taught you not to listen to your father's ideas of what 'avoiding effort' meant. Your father then taught you how to take less obvious shortcuts. These back-and-forths often resulted in small arguments in the home, as if your father delighted in poking your mother. Luckily they were never heated, and your parents were rarely angry. Questioning things became an encouraged response by both parents. But this never got you out of your obligations.
 
You were expected to be courteous and polite to guests: At least around your mother. But beyond keeping up with general niceties, your father never made an effort to impart that kind of civility in you himself. There is one rule he expects you to follow around him, and it's 'Do not make problems for your mother'.
 
It's safe to say that the Aubreen Household is a controlled chaos, despite your mother's emphasis on Harmony. Any tension that may arise in your daily life would likely stem from the dissonance between your father and your mother's expectations...
 
Or their lack of free time to spend with you as a full family unit. Running a Duchy and a Clinic is hard, time-consuming work. They do try, though.

As a child born into the Ducal house of Arcadia and the family with great history, there come many perks - and also responsibilities.
  • Material wealth isn't a question but a constant fact.
  • Both your parents are accomplished mages with a reputation to boot. Much to be learned from them.
  • Not only are your parents worthy mentors, but their friends and the Realm at large provides many opportunities to learn from and apply oneself unto.
  • As a scion of the Aubreen house, the blood of Koretheia runs in you, a possibility to awaken that Nephilim heritage. Or perhaps you will find yourself sprouting the bony wings of Mortyl.
  • Your parents are protective, for better or for worse. Your mother especially will turn mountains for you.
  • With a great deal of privilege and wealth, come responsibilities and expectations as well. Whilst your father may have taught you humbler, more mundane beginnings, your mother has ensured that you would understand etiquette and noblesse oblige. How much you adhere to it may be a sliding scale, but a standard is present nevertheless.

Also, there are four of you! The eldest will be Aerodyne, while the others are Human. Eye color and hair color can be any you like (as per personal wishes fulfilled by your father) but would default to Brown or White hair and green or hazel eyes. Each child can also have one retainer attached to them - someone of roughly the same age who has been brought up in the state orphanage.
