As merchants, civilians, and magi alike move towards the hermit island nation of Scholia Arcanum, the claimants find little resistance. 

The island has no formal military, and outside of the occasional protest of non-magi students, there is no issue setting up camp beneath the tower of the Grand Sorceress.

However, a barrier remains. The magically inclined begin to feel it with every passing day.
The essence cloud that lingers over the island does not give willingly to the new inhabitants, proving more of a drain on their seals than a benefit.
For the Grand Sorceress Muse Eros, First Sorcerer of the Modern Age, and Founder of Arcanum remains a presence on the island. 

Her wards and seals remain, and work on the island slows.

The prevention is not hostile at the moment, but it would appear for now the full stake of a claim would be impossible. At least while the wards remain.
