Don't Fear The Reaper Chapter 1: War -2212 AC

Streets are empty as some citizens choose to evacuate or move to other settlements, in the previous year acolytes had warned those who choose to stay that New Mavethkar will probably die like the old. Death or ascension was predicted by the acolytes, maybe both.

An offer was made to the Duke and he promised to answer it at the start of this new year and it was done, he was offered servitude and chose death. No man has the right to take another's freedom, no man has the right to rule over one's life or death...that was his response.

The Speech:

The Duke gathered the people of New Mavethkar on the last day of the year 2211 for a speech, the speech was later written and sent to other settlements to make his choice known.

" Many attempts to negotiate with Myridia were made and many offers were made including money and even a duel for the one who claims to have been insulted by Juketsu Equisol but they refused all of it, 30,000 coins were offered in an attempt to start over.  We made it clear that we do not want war, we only want to work on our island and protect the Gateway Of The Dead from the Fel, be it necromancers and witches.

They accepted the coins but still wanted 2 of our relics and later vassalage, which would mean to break an oath that was made to The Oracle and we do not break our oaths. Threats and insults were thrown at us, even accusations that Commander Juketsu is a witch were made when he only has an injury caused by them that cannot be removed.

As they laughed at us we were told that the dragon would smash the tiny spider that is New Mavethkar and were given two choices, they give us death or assimilation. As promised we will give you our answer, we choose death but mutual death.As long as I live Myridia will be our only enemy other than the Fel, we will sacrifice ourselves to delay your plans.

Their emperor has promised us that they will conquer all of Meranthe starting with the islands, we know that a tiny spider cannot kill a dragon but it can still poison it and speed their death. We will follow the steps of the sand spider, it's said that it has a poison strong enough to kill anything even if it only dies after the spider is long gone.

We accept and embrace death, let the reaper come but let it be know that we will do anything to take the horde with us. All our resources that were made to protect will be used until we are long gone, our the dragon's wings are cut."

Calendar:

1-Gathering and prayers for Mortyl, a preparation for war and death.  DATE: 03/??   6PM EST

2-Awakening and preparations of troops. The expansion and all projects were abandoned, all resources will be used in a suicide battle against Myridia. The Duke promises to use guerrila tatics.  DATE: 03/??   6PM EST

Diplomacy:

New Mavethkar remains neutral, their main enemy remains the Fel, necromancers and witches and they will now treat Myridia as one of them.

Witchcraft claims? Letters to all nations were sent, anyone who plans to use that casus belli against us or suspect us is welcome to come and test all of us if it will protect peace but we will not be extorted.

Citizens leave their settlement and move to more peaceful ones, despite the warning no moves are made yet.

Result: The spider has chosen mutual death over bending the knee, it will die screaming and kicking but will attempt to poison the dragon as its final act.
