A Responsum to the Aphrosi Inqusition!
#1

A lone Enarran, committed to survival remains standing - through communications she had been alerted of the death and capture of allies she once held dear. An active inquisition on her trail, proclaimed to have ships, guns, and spears laid in wait for her presence, a presence which once graced them gleefully. Once an elegant and opulant swan, now a homeless and disgraced noble, hunted by her Ancestral homeland, Aphros.

She seeks Asylum, and further refuge for the faitfhul of Enarr

As the pressure mounts, the poverty that she lived in became pronounced - and those Enarrans she brought to New Mavethkar's Admiralty, all Non-Magi beyond one, laid dead by the hands of her father's edict of execution, assuming the Duke followed through with his statement; but given the fact that Aphros' levy of executions based upon suspicion toward Enarrans, whom were majorly non Magi sailors in the Admiralty, perhaps he had stayed his hand, consequences of such perhaps to be seen.

Within the revelry of a continent wide hunt, not one would find confirmation of the existence of the Golden Cross, which, if it had existed, might have proved incredibly difficult to separate from Enarrans and Enarran Nephilim, being something believed to have been born of a coalition of Enarran Nephilim who follow the Enarran faith; Yet, emblematically in contemporary times mentioned only by proxy of allegations and a religious hunt levied toward the Symbolic Representation of Enarr's Faith as of 2206AC, Aluya Equisol the Second, Garetta.

From the perspective of an all powerful Enarran conspiracy running the world, from the destruction at Nereides to whoever or whatever remotely relately to Enarr had done, the Golden Cross served to be a convinent justification to condemn  and bind all Enarrans to, or simply just Aluya the Second, so that she (and perhaps others) may take blame for the actions of prior generations.
A responsum is written, a responsum that can be considered "Enarran Resistance Literature" within the the early 2200s AC.
It takes the form of a testimony under Inqusitional pressure that explodes into a political manifesto calling for Enarran Self-Determination.

The Responsum sent forth by remnants of what was the Enarran faith depicts a highly dense and robust defense of her right to live and call for the recognition of Enarran self determination. It is expansive, many may never read it entirely, but specific pages and quotes carry rhetorical force. It holds no punches and accuses many, including a childhood friend of betrayal, backstabbing, lying and persecution. Particularly inclined readers might glean that Garetta was not only trying to defend herself but her religion, and her people's rights in the court of public opinion, whilst asking settlements and factions to have a referendum on Enarran Self Determination.
Surely word had spread of her disinheritance, as has the Inquisition against her become known, her presence but a ghost to the wind. The Responsum is extensive, lengthy, and wounded, it serves as her final call upon the world to recognise her, her faith and her people's humanity. Her silence had been long - many are fit to assume she had been processing the circumstances and now found her thoughts gathered enough to speak at length. And the Responsum does speak at length.

Even in so, the now eighteen year old takes a gamble for her life, success of her people and their safety.

It reaches far and wide, carried in the form of pages stuck to Noticeboards which one had to painstainkly flip through - to all Kingdoms and others;

"I offer my hand in marriage, or my life in servitude to whoever or whatever will provide protection for myself and land to build a settlement where Enarrans can be free of unjust persecution."

As I have turned eighteen on this very day, I find my life to have few other options toward survival.
My faith has been declared criminal by major nations, so I have become a soul without refuge.
I know, that there may be more who share my faith,
And allied deities in brotherhood who may now feel inclined to hide as I had as a child.

I will explain why I've made this decision, beyond not ever knowing what the love of another has felt like, at leas
t before I am fated to die for my many crimes."

"My mentor Alysleneth,  my closest ally - my Admiral, fellow Enarran, Teague, and the non magi Enarrans who served new Mavethkar and Aphros Valiantly now rest in Vanaheim, The Realm of the Exalted. It may come as a shock to many of you that Teague was, in fact, an Enarran. Yet, he was not always; we both found each other in Caethir, and we shared a desire for the seas.

The basis of our bond was not tyranny, persecution, or harm, but a shared desire to set sail and let the seas determine our fate.

For him, I wrote a book that contained all my thoughts on the Enarran Animist faith, Navigationalism. Yet, he was always a better Captain than I. Outwitting me when measured against my wisdom - I cherished the presence of that man deeply, as did I, Miss Alysleneth. May he now rest in peace. May they now rest in peace.

I was told by Cassius Bargiel that I should join the Bastion as a Squire - so that the Oracle may have a closer eye upon me. I was welcomed with praise by the Oracle's close confidant, who told me I was continuing my family's legacy. He encouraged me to embrace myself, to be uncaring of what others had thought - but he always spoke of 'balance' in a coercive way.

He would often speak extensively about redemption, once he had asked me if my great-grandfather, Melos dul Vique, begged for redemption, if I would redeem him. He said I should act in such a manner to always give redemption,"

"Yet he is among men who offer me no option other than martyrdom for a cause they have already obliterated."

"This accusation of heresy is truly a profound abuse of authority, unwarranted and intrusive,  I am not an athelite, I am an Enarran therefore I am not beholden to theological judgements by the Oracle of Athelios, even if I had served Aphros politically and militarily, in fact, to exemplify my religious ideal toward pluralism I ensured that the laws of New Mavethkar did not import the religious inclinations of the Aphrosi legal and cultural codex to promote religious pluralism, but it appears the Oracle never intended to practice religious Pluralism within his Empire.

What has occurred is that the worship of Enarr has been declared a heresy by an Athelite who holds no dominion over the Enarran faith. This makes no sense. It is nonsensical, irrational, and a bad precedent for other faiths beneath and outside of the Pantheon. What stops your God, spirit or deity from becoming a heresy punishable by a worser fate than witchdom? To allow this to stand as a justification for war or summary execution makes Meranthe unstable and barbaric, it traps peoples into cycles of eternal wars for past wrongs, while the fel butchers our people. We cannot continue to find reasons to betray our family.

In addition I was lured to Aphros under the pretense that such theologically inclined persecutions were not to occur, I would not have come to Aphros if I knew it would declare Enarrans heretics on a whim with no right to life, which brings me to Cassius di Bargiel."

"Captain of the Astra, Cassius Bargiel,
Told me as long as I could recruit for New Mavethkar it didn't matter whom. So I followed my former Overseer's objective toward recruitment, and I sought to bring my people to a place where they could contribute as equal citizens."
"And now, they perhaps lie dead."

"I do believe Captain Cassius Bargiel and the Oracle planned this intentionally, to humiliate me as a public spectacle and have me slain as a sacrifice to their God, Athelios. What other reason would there be - to request my presence, encourage me, empower me, then declare my head a national treasure? Either Cassius, the Oracle and others abandoned an ally or they had never intended to be loyal to whom their bonds were made to begin with, this speaks multitidues toward their honor as men.

When they were benefitted by my labours for New Mavethkar, they were not silent. I was given the impression I had their complete support."

"I see now in hindsight that they were laying the seeds within my mind to make me feel safe, whilst the Oracle had feigned tolerance toward me since I was young, so that I would promise my people service as equals, to contribute to a greater cause - when they merely saw us as lambs to the slaughter and so, the very Squires of the Bastion who have no say in this edict of execution write me, in hushed protest at the brutality of their leaders;
Page 3

Quote:"I hope that you have not fallen victim to a blade that has been raised against you with prejudice."
"A letter written, their own people ever aware of the injustice, the tyranny, the prejudice, the intention to kill what has only served them loyally and totally".

Quote:"It seems this Sacred Hunt is not based on actions committed upon your name, but names, figures many of us were not there to witness."
"Declared and emblematic words, alerting me that I am not alone in recognising the absurdity, the indignity of being blamed for the sins of those whom I've never met.
They treat me worse than a witch, a Necromancer who has aided the fel was righteously redeemed but for the sin of not having any protection whilst carrying a persecuted faith in my blood and bones, I remain the condemned one; their people see through this persecution, and so they write to me.

It is evident that Baily Rowe, a man who cared for me as a child, blames an organisation called "The Golden Cross" for crimes committed in Nereides. I am also told everyone responsible has been punished or killed. Baily Rowe was the type of man to doubt my father's warning of witchery in Antefeim, once again he has delivered a bad judgement and it shocks me not.

People seem to adore men who make bad judgements - but he remains united with Arcadia in his call for reparations, but I cannot provide monetary or otherwise reparations without land, therefore what is really sought is my death as retribution and the crushing of the Enarran people.

So I then stipulate, if this "Golden Cross" was indeed involved with Nereides, what responsibility do I bare, if we are to judge me on the dilemia that I am some all powerful conspirator, having been born and raised in a profoundly Anti-Enarran environment post-destruction of Enos?

And I have read the history books, it does not appear
this "Golden Cross" was referenced even once in relation to that conflict. Then, why do I bear responsibility based upon accusations levied against a persecuted religion and peoplehood on the continent? I hope you are all ashamed of yourselves for letting barbarism consume you. But I know shame is something only befitting of an Enarran to possess in the eyes of many. The shame of the past, the shame of bad judgments, the shame of being born and living devoutly."
Quote:"Dramatic words spill that crimes committed by the past are weights you are meant to hold upon the day of your execution."

"They warn me of what the Aphrosi upper echelons plan, they encourage me to stay clear, they tell me of the crimes they've charged me with.
And even they are struck by the cruelty of the men who lead them, but they are forced to carry out their orders, as they have no say against - The Cruelty of Cassius Bargiel, the Tyranny of the Oracle, the Devilishness of the Pontifice, whose honor I stood to protect. The Cruelty of them all. The part of them that tells them to persecute the daughter of their most renowned lineage."

"My Great Grandfather, Grey Aundeoth, tells me of how they tried to get him to convince me to surrender myself to their execution.
They will stop at no end, manipulating my feelings through my family - to sate their desire for Enarran blood."

"It is hard to see how this is much different from Barbarism and mob justice."
"Evidently, if you people could, you would genocide Enarrans,"
"So the only answer is to protect ourselves from such aggression."
"And as I remain the most visible,"
"This one Enarran who served you will suffice for your ritual because you know I have no protection."
"No father, no mother, no family, no rule of law, just masters."

"But know this: Your souls will lie in Helheim."
"That is unless you are unburdened by committing the murder of an innocent."
"Something that my soul could never forgive myself for doing."
"I judge the masses convicted against me and my people to be guilty of a profound sort of cruelty."
Page 4

"The Cruelty that has become acceptable against a faith beneath the pantheon, to turn my family against me, that has led to this persecutory Inquisition, where I need a hero to save me, the cruelty that is so all consuming that I cannot save my own self from."

"I need a hero who will not abandon a people!"
"I refuse to accept collective and intergenerational punishment!"
"For myself or others no matter what it takes!"

"I was sold a myth, the myth of freedom. I was sold a myth, the myth of balance. The myth of redemption. Far worse men today walk among you, former necromancers, former terrorists, former witches, but my sin, so grave and so vile that I must be slain at an altar of a blood sacrifice, is simply - carrying the lineage of Solomon Equisol. The same Lineage as Melos dul Vique, Lirael Equisol, the Richters, Anya Talalt, Bansai Talalt and all of my siblings and mother. Then I ask, if any of them had chosen the path I had, would they have been persecuted all the same?"

"I believe this world wants to punish Equisols who do not bend to their ideas of who we must worship or be, since I've been young many have told me I should change my name, but I intend to carry my ancestor's blood with pride, even in unjust persecution."
"And I refuse to be ashamed of the God who watched the realm since time had begun - with his brother, Ualdir. Gala knows of his praise and his ire, yet together they all remain in brotherhood and cause."
Page 5

"It was said after the destruction of the Temple at Enos there would be no further need for violence, that is what archives reflect statement-wise. Yet the violence continues, all responsible lay dead, all responsible lay redeemed, but I am condemned for working tirelessly to ensure New Mavethkar succeeded. I fail to see how any God can be proud of the barbarian inclinations their worshippers are portraying at this moment in history."

Quote:You will be fortunate in our victory, for the destruction of your icons, of Ualdir and Enarr's bastion and sigil, will mean the slight against Her is righted. A blood debt paid, and no further need for conflict issued. It is the better ending for you-- for the alternative is the wrath of a furious Goddess brought upon the heavens themselves, turned towards the God-King and his most loyal general both, in a time when they have no dearth of enemies amidst Athelios's rebellion.

- Yesyra Florain

Commander of the Elzara
Priestess of Nemea

"And yet, despite this statement from the Commander of the Elzara on that day, I am still yet punished when I had not born to witness it."

"I have been disinherited. I have been abandoned, my own grandfather looks at me in contempt, reluctant to aid the one he knows has done him nothing because he fears if I had become more followed, more renowned, more powerful, he would be persecuted."

"Let's talk about him, then, The God-King Grey Aundeoth,
Since Vionelle all those years ago had woes with my Great Grandfather,
The God-King of Kindlehelm,

I remained in communication to explore her perspective on life.

I have come to find, my Great Grandfather is a deeply dislikeable man.
And I might find myself swearing profanities at him on my death bed."
"So he, Grey Aundeoth, has chosen to allow his Great Grand-Daughter, who carries the blood and memories of the last words of his former wife Junnodem Aundeoth, to be persecuted to death to save his perceived downfall at her hands, potraying to her that his worshippers matter more to him than his own blood, blood that was raised to worship him."
"He went so far as to say, rather than offering any assistance to someone who was raised to worship him, that I should "sell some fish at Crownforge" demonstrating how little he cared for my desire to live, he had bigger problems than to worry about his Great Grand-daughter's little bit of persecution she deserves."
"You all think so lowly of me, my God, and my people, but I declare every last soul responsible, complicit and compliant with this Inqusition morally, spiritually and ethically bankrupt."
"If you do have your way, Dear Oracle, I'm going to haunt your dreams and spirit like a fookin' stain,"
"This is my oath to your beloved Athelwine."
Page 6

"It was the Sage, Felice, who told me I would not be held to the sins of my forefathers."

"That woman is no sage, she is a liar. And it is shown bare by my treatment."
"Yet, it is true I do carry his religion, and I wrote of such expansively."

"Not that any of you cared to read what I wrote."

"Nor did you ever care for me beyond Enarr."
Page 7

"They call me a tyrant, but are the actions of the Oracle to persecute and kill a seventeen-year-old girl who served with no intention of rebellion or harm, not tyranny?" "Is it truly justice, law, mercy, redemption and order to concoct a lavish celebration after my execution in which I am made to bare crimes and die for whom I have never met?
"Perhaps the Oracle,
And people of Atheleon, formerly Gloomlight, represent the criminal aspect of Athelios,
The part of him which does crime onto the innocent because he simply felt inclined."

"And I take this as the will of Athelios the God of Intolerance, Crime and Persecution?"

Quote: "Perhaps the Emperor's new clothes are draped in blood and crushed souls thus bespoke without a hint of irony toward his tyranny."

"I led New Mavethkar's Judicry with the rule of law, clearly articulated and certain; there was no tyranny, only consistency."
"But I remain the wayward and reviled daughter, to be made a lamb to slaughter, to die alone and disgraced for daring to actualise her father's dreams."

"If my sin worthy of execution is loyalty?"
"Then it is known that I will be dead on arrival."

"I never once waivered on my commitment to my family or my God."
"And to expect a willing surrender from me, itself, is a heresy."
Page 8

"I am the tyrant they all say."

"It was all my doing, I killed many, blew up Nereides and suppressed Gods by virtue of my magnificent blood. Sins I've committed in eons past, sins I've never been allowed to regret, sins I've never been allowed to mend.
Condemn me for my pentience could not solve the rends made in times beyond these common times."

"Therefore;"
Page 9

"As I have turned eighteen on this very day, I offer my hand in marriage to anyone who can secure protection for myself, my people and provide us the chance to determine our futures against the unrighteous Inquisition of Aphros."
"I promise you all that is promised when you have a wife. I promise eternal commitment to whatever territory, cause, or peoplehood that grants me and others refuge from this cruel fate. I want to live and I do not deserve to be persecuted this way, Enarrans deserve self determination!

I promise that I will be loyal to whatever means if you promise not to abandon a people, as my family had. If you promise not to betray us,
to not set me up for murder like the man I trusted the most, my former Knight, my Former Overseer Cassius Bargiel, a man whom I should've known was cloaked in cloth and dagger, ready rend his blade through the heart of a childhood friend."

"And if there is no man to undertake this request, then I offer any nation or being a slave who will die on behalf of their battlefield."

"I choose to live in slavery if it means I actualise my dream of self determination on behalf of Enarrans and the rule of law, rather than die to give release to the persecutors of their sister, squire, Justiciar, believer, friend, and daughter."
"An inquisition where it is known the Knights enforcing it simply seek to fulfil a prophecy of killing Enarrans young, like the orphanage that was destroyed by a certain Richter."

"Heavy is the head that wears the Crown - even if it is half your age."

"And for one like me? Perhaps, freedom was never an option but I will die if it means others will someday be born free!"
"You may render your interest in being my wedded partner or otherwise patron here, on this bulletin, or write a letter - and remember. You don't find me, I'll find you."
Signed, Aluya Equisol the Second, Garetta
Page 10

Some might recall upon a day when two were made one, a wedding of those called Richter in Union, the Enarran stated she would never be married. Yet, at age 18, it seems she was dying to be wed. A statement out of desperation, a call for protection, a request for safety in a world that used her and disregarded her like a lost utensil because of her faith. Yet, it seemed she did not care who answered, as long as someone had, who could provide her and her people protection against the horde demanding her head on a silverplate.

If nothing more, Enarr would be able to glean how truly despised he had been, to the point where his own blood was forced to take on the burden of fighting for his faith in a near universally hostile environment. Unfortunately for Enarr, his faith, or most visible nephilim may simply be crushed by prejudice unless someone saw the plight of the Enarrans and bestowed upon them liberation and emancipation.

Stonehaven stands ever as a bastion for those who believe in Enarr and Ualdir. As they have aided the refugees of Enos before, so will they now the innocent and just believers of the Highest of the Pantheon, persecuted of sins they do not know and a past they did not live.
To them, Lex Ferrus, devout believer of Enarr, shall hold open the gates of Stonehaven.
"But to offer this marriage... it is a desperation ill fit fer a Nephilim of the Godking. Hold yerself 'ta better standard." - Lex Ferrus
