[Dandeli]

 

 

In years gone by, a child slept beneath a cosy, cosy blanket, 

wrought of the finest silkworm thread...!

 

A dreamland most magnificent filled each little nook and cranny of her mind, 

the most dazzling wonders dancing about in unabashed splendour...!

 

Her favourite river became dulcet chocolate, 

the reeds had turned into lollipops, 

and the trees had turned into candy floss...!

 

Best of all was a rainbow larger than anything she'd ever seen, 

craning over the clouds before free-falling into a charming little clearing...!

 

It whispered promises, many promises, of all sort of things: 

shoes that would never fall off, 

treasure that would never lose its lustre, 

and all the right words to keep her mother happy...!

 

When she awoke she tied her boots tightly, 

crept out the house, 

and wandered, 

and wandered, 

and wandered, 

even though it was ten past midnight...!

   

The river ran as water, the reeds tasted like earth, and the trees had turned green...

 

And at the end of it, there was only a quartet of hungry, hungry wolves...!
