The Shades of Viritas
"From Silence, we are born. Amidst Silence, we speak. To Silence, we return."
For a time, the Apostles of Mydaea were but whispers. Echoes of an era of woe and ruin, since reshaped and veiled.
They became shadows unseen, protectors of a sanctuary removed from Eternia as a haven for the faithful of the Angel of Art.
Their devotion is spoken through actions and motion unseen, in the Silence Between.
In blood upon canvas. Ink upon flesh. Suffering made sacred.

That time has ended.

That veil has thinned.
The Paintscape no longer contains what was cultivated within.
The shadows walk, now, pervaded by meaning and certainty.
What Are They?
The Shades of Viritas are the faithful of Yaeka Akatsuki, the Curator of Souls, and living extensions of her will. Cultivated within a realm of possibility and facsimile. Taken from broken lives and fates; to be reformed, to be given purpose and meaning. Granted an existence and purpose that will outlive them.-
Shades are trained endlessly with the oversight of the Curator herself in combat and the arts, in espionage and surveillance.
They are inhuman in their discipline to the point it becomes instinct.
They are not taught what to do—they are taught how to see, where to act... and when not to.
- To exist within silence, without presence or disruption.
- To observe patterns, and understand the meaning behind them.
- To move through identities without losing themselves.
- To gather truth without distorting it.
- To end what must be ended, without excess or hesitation.
Above all, they are to exercise restraint.
For the difference between a Shade and a weapon... is the ability to choose.

They are observers, infiltrators, arbiters, and executioners.
How they serve the Curator is dependent upon what best suits them, for they are shaped into what they were always meant to become.
Who Can Become a Shade?
There are several paths that find their endings, and beginnings, with the Curator of Souls.
The PaintedRaised within the Paintscape, you are something unnatural to the waking world.
You have known Silence, shaping, and the quiet hand of the Curator all your life.
You may struggle to understand the material world.
You may view people as 'canvases' rather than individuals.
You are learning what it means to exist beyond purpose.
The Remade
Once broken. Once discarded. Once ended.
You were found, by chance or design, and given new life by Yaeka.
Your past may be tragic, violent, or irredeemable.
You were not saved... you were repurposed.
You now walk with meaning, even if you do not yet understand it.
The Willing
Not all are found or raised. Some seek this fate.
You have seen something in the Apostles through rumors and observation, whether it was beauty, horror, or truth, and decided to step forward.
You believe in Mydaea's rebirth.
You seek transformation, not comfort.
You are willing to give something of yourself... forever.
What do Shades Do?
At the dawn of a new era, they move not only with secrecy... but presence.
-As a Shade, you may:
- Assist in the construction of the Cathedral dedicated to the Apostles' faith in the Angel of Art.
- Participate in rituals of transformation, devotion, and rebirth.
- Learn of fleshcraft, shaping of memory, and creation of relics.
- Act as envoys, guardians, or executioners of the Curator's will.
- Help shape the faith, doctrine, and future of the Remnant of Viritas.
- Help make Relics for a growing faith.
Themes and Tone
This could be for you if you enjoy:- Dark, artistic fantasy.
- Transformation through suffering
- Devotion bordering on the unsettling
- Found purpose vs. lost identity
- Leaning into the line between mercy and cruelty
No longer is this a mindless cult Hel-bent upon painting the world black... it has evolved along with its Curator.

This is a role hook, thus there are no immediate mechanical benefits to it.
You will be helped with boosters.
You will have access to Ink Magic users if you wish to learn it.

You will have access to Fleshcrafting mentorship, if you wish to learn it.
You will have access to the new faith in Mydaea's incarnation, and will be able to help shape its doctrine and future through your actions.
There are plans to develop Shades to have access to more abilities in the future.
