The game deserves attention at some mechanics

I believe E5 is just around the corner and we’re excited, but I’d like to invite you to consider whether the game is ready to switch to a different battle mode when there are still so many bugs in this one.

Quote:For example, I was maxing out mana to get DR and discovered that it no longer serves that purpose / is slightly bugged? I’m not sure what the best term is.

Another example is that veteran players know, but new players don’t, just how MANY spells are bugged and useless. I was using Volcanic Eruption, for instance, but there are countless others in the Unarmed and other trees. This inadvertently leads to a metagame that stifles IC play at the expense of OOC survival.

‘But let’s change the battle mode; why fix this first?’
For the sake of reliability and credibility. To convey the idea that the developers have meticulous concerns about the system; otherwise, the impression remains that the next system will be just as buggy, and suddenly the idea of making things more balanced becomes hard to believe.

The transition to tactical will be interesting. I think I'll perform better with it personally (Even though I am smooth of brain).

My biggest concern with it is that it needs to be unique and enjoyable. Eternia was unique with its real time combat, while there are quite a few turn-based styled byond games out there. With one that's been turn based since the get go, and another set to release in a few months (that I've heard about).

Fixes and changes to the current system appears to be an ongoing thing. With the last one being back on the 26th with Ignite and Netzach's Crescent Moon (See via /changelog ingame). So I think we will still see bug fixes (If they are reported) and changes until e5 on the real time side of things.

As for Mana/DR, I'm not entirely sure what is meant by "It no longer serves that purpose/is slightly bugged". Back when my Sirenian ran DR, at 235 Mana (With Jeweled Eminence toggled) and 12% DR from Earth Aura, I had 28% DR. So a resting 16% DR at 235 mana without it. Mind this is from the stat sheet not /delements.

I don't know the mathematics for checking DR though, so maybe what's trying to be conveyed is that the numbers stated in clicking the mana stat (Each point gives 0.05% damage reduction up to 150, and 0.1% after 150; +mana capacity.) do not match the numbers one gets from actually putting the stats in. Which is....

Uhh, I'm not a % math person but a base 200+ RPL without any invested points in mana has like...

7.8% DR according to /delements, at 153 mana. So I had 82 more mana then the average 200+ at 235. 0.1% of 82 is like, 8.2%? 8.2+7.8 = 16%, then +12 from earth aura = 28%.

No idea if the math is right.
Forgive me Danny Boy, for I've lost my touch.[Image: a1c5821151379249915fc28ad734e73f.png]
But I'm still keeping this as my signature.

I just hope the barrier to entry is lower. I'm not good at the current combat and getting useful information is really difficult (Wizard wars is NOT a useful source of info.) and want to be able to fight for what my character believes. I find the current combat demoralizing, often the only way to get useful practice is someone who is already powerful and thus hard to gauge yourself against. Fighting others around your level might lead to bad habits

As is, this game honestly has a lot of stuff that makes it bad for twitchy combat, like horrific engine level input lag and castlock (which I personally just think isn't fun) so turn based isn't unreasonable.
