It's that time. The old, crooked mayor of Sudbury finally keeled over after winning re-election four times in a row with the help of the criminal underground. Threats, bribes, and foul play can take one far in the slums, something that the candidates this time around should be fully aware of. The temptation to enrich yourself rather than the people of Sudbury may be an alluring one, as the people there aren't easily sold on idealised promises. Prepare for the long haul if you're out to become mayor.
- The people of Sudbury are hard working but like most in extreme poverty, are quick to blame their issues on 'the other' if someone charismatic enough pulls them in that direction. Whether that's the nobility, foreign migrants, or the criminals in their district.
- The population is 60,000. The district was built in a rush during a peak in Osrona's population, a prosperous era that required an excess of quick, affordable housing, even if it meant cheap materials and less than perfect architectural design. Occasionally a chunk of the town is burned down by a brawl or a wildfire...
- Criminal gangs have an extraordinary amount of influence. They offer some of the few good paying (but dangerous jobs) that the district has to offer, and many politicians are in their pocket, making passing laws difficult if you're not on good terms with the dark underbelly of Sudbury.
- The first debate will be on Sunday the 8th, 6PM EST, on a stage in public with the leading candidates. The rising journalist, Discourse, will be the moderator. This will be a series of pre-selected questions where each attendee will have a few minutes to provide an answer (less than 10 OOC minutes a post) and they'll be able to respond to each other during this. Maybe there will be time for audience questions?
- The overall magi support a candidate has will be influential but not the sole factor.
- How pro-active they are during their campaign will also be a major factor. You'll likely want to navigate carefully, and watch your back in case your political rivals hire assassins.
- If you have money, you have an advantage. Pay for an ad campaign such as a smear against your opponent, or to establish your policies to the public. These options will be available following the initial debate period.
- You must give up your current title if you become mayor, if you're a knight, for example. The duty is full-time, and then some extra.
- The base wage is 400c, but it'll be drastically increased depending on how corrupt your mayor is (up to 3,000c a day). You can choose to enrich yourself by working directly with criminal organizations, such as the Syndicate.
- You'll be granted peerage, one of fifty members of Osrona that draft up and vote on laws. Do not expect to change the entire district overnight, of course. And it helps to have favor with certain groups, such as the nobility.
- Your budget is limited! Want to build a coliseum, get rid of the shoddy black market, start an infrastructure project or open a gallery...? Well, you better focus on your priority because you only have so much resources to work with.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
