What <span style="font-style: italic;" class="mycode_i">is </span>confirmed is that the game's setting will continue in Meranthe, reflecting the history of the country, with lore/world desires that lean towards more gritty kingdom oriented conflict rather than good vs. evil magic. I'll share my ideas of what this could look like in discussions and will be looking for assistance in writing the new lore.</span><br />

			<title><![CDATA[Autumn Update (2.10)]]></title>

It's been a while since we've had a scheduled content update, almost a year in fact. Originally this was the <a href="https://chronicles-of-eternia.com/forum/thread-2101-page-3.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="mycode_url">update format of choice</a>, but there was a heavy preference towards more frequent and live updates in a community survey. Personally I have a preference towards larger, seasonal updates with smaller patches in-between (bug fixes, balance, etc) and that's what we'll be doing for now!<br />
<br />
Behind the scenes, Zonespace has been doing amazing work in setting the foundations for tactical combat. Group battles (2v2s/3v3s) are what I've found to be most entertaining and what the classes and skill trees are designed around. We have a decent base level of content now and find it ready for global testing; this is <span style="font-style: italic;" class="mycode_i">not</span> the default combat method, as it is currently very much a work-in-progress!<br />
<br />
Development focus now and in the future will be enriching the sandbox experience, with attention paid towards each character's individual worth and role within the world. Beginning with an overhaul and remake to most crafts, as well as perks and access that settlement leaders can grant as collaborators. This will include:<br />
<br />
➤ Dedicated area, territory, and warfare zones, as well as supporting event management in-game for factions to collaborate and conspire against one another (interactive supply drop offs, siege preparations, war camps, etc)<br />
<br />
➤ Excavation zones and regions for PvE (as well as resource wars/alliances) as we move towards a modular quest and dungeon system based on these exploits.<br />
<br />
➤ Improving the settlement system, making it more immersive (construction sites, characters contributing towards organic expansions). Crafting stations that can be enhanced and support for group Wonder projects, as well as a content foundation for the latter.<br />

Begin with the process and let it simmer away, then customize the final result!<br />

See <a href="https://eterniaroleplay.fandom.com/wiki/Oscuri" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="mycode_url">the original lore</a>. You predate this written history; before the rise of Sareen and the Azraelites of Valmasia, shortly after the end of the Divine War and the defeat of Azrael.<br />
<br />
You were imprisoned within the Hollow World, and in that time you were experimented on and altered; when reproducing, your children are born with shameful black lines, rather than the vibrant green of Azrael. It is however possible for them to become a true Oscuri if they undergo a necromantic ritual after leading a life in service to the Morninglord.<br />
<br />
Your imprisonment was ended by <a href="https://chronicles-of-eternia.com/forum/thread-19321-post-107309.html#pid107309" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="mycode_url">the Eleven</a> that made contact with Vdali, an exchange made and a deal struck, perhaps to their regret. Since escaping your imprisonment you have found refuge within the Tower of Aetius and the neighbouring settlement of the Mementos of Mortyl. You are an organized force of warriors that follow a command structure; what you do next is to be determined by your Vindicators.<br />

After nearly a month of <a href="https://chronicles-of-eternia.com/forum/thread-15906.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="mycode_url">1.9 going live</a>, the development of 2.0 has been well underway. Initially this was going to be a smaller update (comparative to other patches), but given the milestone number, I was tempted to let it bake in the oven for a while longer. So that means it might take a little longer and will be more feature/content packed; right now we're not sure on a release, but we've made great progress on all fronts.<br />
<br />
This teaser is mostly comprised of what's finished or close to, which means as we go into November you can expect more! Currently waiting on some sprite orders for map assets and spell effects!<br />

The foundation of the update, and what a lot of it is built around. There are roughly ten new dungeons being added, but these are 'waves of enemies' style. An open area where monsters blitz you wave after wave until the boss appears.<br />
<br />
Unlike traditional Meranthe dungeons that give you EXP/coin and a chance at extracting valuable resources, these reward tokens and EXP. Tokens are a new type of currency as detailed in the PvE store with a host of new items.<br />
<br />
Being defeated means you'll be removed from the dungeons, so be sure to bring a healer and/or a strong party! These are purposely challenging, with new enemy types and aggressive, bullet hell style play. <br />
<br />
The difficulty is marked on the mini-map. Green for easy, gold for standard, and red for extreme. The green types are aimed at newbies/low levels, and can only be completed once a day; the others are free game with unlimited uses. But the party leader does have to pay a coin cost on entry to fund the quest, which acts as another coin sink while also warding against endless grind.<br />

<span style="font-weight: bold;" class="mycode_b">PVE STORE<br />
</span>With the introduction of wave-style dungeons, tokens are now a thing and can be spent in the token shop. You can also purchase them with coin and even influence; the exchange rate for the former isn't too great, but influence is fairly generous (another faction incentive!).<br />
<br />
In the token store, you'll find all sorts: a variety of familiars, mini-game kits (slots, blackjack), true flight, rebirth and swim potions, the treasure detector, dungeon keys, arcana exclusive packs, guild +EXP and more! But be warned, some things are purposely pricy, meant to serve as a high-end coin dump when the auction house isn't emptying pockets.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-weight: bold;" class="mycode_b">FAMILIARS</span><br />
An elaborate familiar/pet system that focuses around lifeskills. They can be used in combat, and do have spells, but that's not their benefit or real use (given low HP); it's overcapping the lifeskills!<br />
<br />
With a familiar, you can train it in a particular lifeskill (cooking, mining, farming, etc) and level it up. It gains EXP whenever a monster is killed by you, as well as just being around you, and there are also 'rare candy' style potions you can use on it for easy levels. <br />
<br />
You can roleplay as your familiar &amp; yourself at the same time, take it over and even travel a short distance from your person. Familiars also act as a prelude to the faction NPC system, but that's for another post in the not so distant future. <br />
<br />
These are purchased on the token store and are high-end investments!<br />

<span style="font-weight: bold;" class="mycode_b">IMPROVED INFO BOX</span><br />
As shown below, the right-click info box has gotten a makeover. There's now a 128x128 space for you to upload an image, and command buttons (ping, party, battle, examine, etc). The description setting menu has also been <a href="https://imgur.com/KMPfafx" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="mycode_url">drastically improved</a>, for disguises too!<br />

<span style="font-weight: bold;" class="mycode_b">SEASONS</span><br />
Now the seasons will shift, and there is a flavor announcement when it does so (once per year, because fantasy climate). What this does has various world impact. You'll start seeing clumps of snow forming in the north during winter, for example, that you can interact with/destroy like trees, and piles of leaves that vary in color. As well as whooshing leaves in the forests colored to the current season; vivid green for summer, auburn for autumn, yellow for spring, grey for winter, etc! Additionally, there will be season specific spawns for herbs and creatures.<br />

Ever wanted to craft say, a music box, or a good luck charm? This recipe makes 'flavor' items much more straightforward. You just set the name, description, and get to upload a sprite; so you no longer need to find a glamor potion and a gold patron to set something like a gift up. <br />
<br />
<span style="font-weight: bold;" class="mycode_b">CHARACTER INSPECT</span><br />
Now you can examine someone via the info box. This displays things like equipment they're purposely showing off, whether or not they were recently injured, etc. In the future we can do a lot with this.<br />

<span style="font-weight: bold;" class="mycode_b">MISC</span><br />
➤ The tutorial is getting an additional 5 quests to steer new players along. As the game's mechanical depth continues to grow, this seemed appropriate.<br />
➤ A 'markup' button in the RP window, displaying all available HTML.<br />
➤ An 'Assign Rank' guild option, so you don't have to promote/demote multiple times.<br />
➤ A /leave command for private battle spectators.<br />
➤ Your character changes direction where you click.<br />
➤ Custom sprite tuning now saves properly for Demons.<br />

A big thank you to everyone that's been on board with the ride, and to many more years of fleshing out the rich history of our shared world. It begins with the introduction of a new stat: <span style="font-style: italic;" class="mycode_i"><span style="font-weight: bold;" class="mycode_b">influence</span></span>. A form of currency that you gain whenever EXP is earned within a 100 tile radius of your faction's settlement (including interiors), among other progression methods. <br />
<br />
To begin, what is a faction? The current system is being expanded to allow the staff to spawn 'faction' NPCs, that they set the name of, the guild, and which settlement its linked to. Once the faction NPC is set up, then any character can interact with it to join the guild as the lowest level (rank 1). <br />

As a member of the faction, they now gain influence at the base rate. By being promoted, this rate is increased. Citizen being level 1, soldier/apprentice level 2, experienced authority level 3, etc. Up to 7 levels to set, though there are limits on the higher ones that vary depending on the activity of your faction.<br />
<br />
You can only be in one faction at a time. If you speak to another NPC, you'll be asked if you want to leave your current faction, which wipes your influence. You can still be in multiple guilds of course, just one of choice is marked as your 'faction'.<br />
<br />
Multiple faction NPCs can be set to the same settlement, if a nation wishes to have official guilds, multiple branches, etc. It's all purposely flexible to the desired structure!<br />
<br />

It asks your opponent if they wish to make this battle private, and then you choose an arena currently not in use from many available themes; you can see Valterak and Bolonga working on these in the Discord publicly viewable map channel.<br />

Anyone that's nearby/already there are also asked if they want to watch. Once the battle concludes, all are sent back to the original spot on the overworld from the arena.<br />

Wanted to get in contact with someone but timezones are making it tough? Now you can send a letter to them and they'll be alerted on log in! It begins with the introduction of a new stat: <span style="font-style: italic;" class="mycode_i"><span style="font-weight: bold;" class="mycode_b">influence</span></span>. A form of currency that you gain whenever EXP is earned within a 100 tile radius of your faction's settlement (including interiors), among other progression methods. <br />

To begin, what is a faction? The current system is being expanded to allow the staff to spawn 'faction' NPCs, that they set the name of, the guild, and which settlement its linked to. Once the faction NPC is set up, then any character can interact with it to join the guild as the lowest level (rank 1). <br />

As a member of the faction, they now gain influence at the base rate. By being promoted, this rate is increased. Citizen being level 1, soldier/apprentice level 2, experienced authority level 3, etc. Up to 7 levels to set, though there are limits on the higher ones that vary depending on the activity of your faction.<br />

You can only be in one faction at a time. If you speak to another NPC, you'll be asked if you want to leave your current faction, which wipes your influence. You can still be in multiple guilds of course, just one of choice is marked as your 'faction'.<br />

This update has been in the works for a few months now, and its release is steadily approaching. <span style="font-weight: bold;" class="mycode_b">Stall Bookkeeping</span><br />
When interacting with your stall as an owner or helper in the update, you'll see a 'Check Logs' command. This displays the Total and Weekly Revenue of the stall, as well as a dated list of items placed and sold by the shopkeeper. <br />

<span style="font-weight: bold;" class="mycode_b">Event Battle Command</span><br />
Specifically for events, this is a variation of the usual arena except it's much larger! Making it great for group battles.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-weight: bold;" class="mycode_b">Mini-map</span><br />
To help you navigate the world, the mini-map has been added! It shows an expanded view around your character and marks things like other characters, quest NPCs, monsters, etc. You can minimize it with the click of a button, and also hide your location from other players with the 'Incognito' toggle option. <br />

You can place organic material within the bin and watch it climb higher over time: once its four stages are complete, it'll produce an amount of fertilizer that varies depending on the materials used. Every material has a unique compost value.<br />

What fertilizer does is an item that's expended and applied to a 3x3 radius of soil, doubling the rate of growth and also doubling the chance of getting a 'high quality' crop!<br />
<br />
Oh yeah and I hate to say it but nature magi have it too good so they're being nerfed; they'll no longer have access to Growth. Sorry! We'll be doing something with that in a smaller follow up patch, though.<br />
<br />

A supercharged watering can that covers a 3x3 area rather than 1x1 on use!<br />

At Level 100 farming, you now unlock the 'Seed Harvest' ability that destroys a herb but produces a few seeds! This doesn't work on event only materials but anything you can find in the world then you can produce seeds of it.<br />

This is now a toggle-buff, meaning you can pair it with other aura type spells! (with number adjustments, of course)<br />

A number of new commands have been added to farm animals, such as 'View Status' that lets you see their happiness %, age, whether they're hungry, etc! &amp; 'Call' that has them follow you, or 'Back' which returns them to their barn. Once a few years old, you can use 'Slaughter' to butcher them for meat (also adds beef and associated recipes). Additionally, feeding and butchering animals now grants farming EXP!<br />

You can also see a clean, less intrusive context menu below when you right-click an animal. This will be leveraged more often in the future.<br />

This update has been in the works for a few months now, and its release is steadily approaching. A second post will follow when we have an exact date for that, as well as information on <span style="font-weight: bold;" class="mycode_b">various race and role hooks available</span> to you if you want to make a character specifically for the update!<br />
