Meranthe is a land of magic and opportunity. Though none may lay claim to the Tower Aetius at its heart, there are numerous
areas within the realm that hold valuable resources, land, or even treasures unknown to the wider world.
.
These locations are thus contested; the world of magi oft look to grow to greater heights, and it’s through word and wit that battles
are fought for these desirable locales. Yet, when words falter, there is an even greater recourse.
.
War.
..
Whether it be a small group of brigands intending to raze a building or one of the greatest nations of Meranthe attempting to subjugate their foes,
there is always something at stake; and in times such as these, blood is often a road to power.

What is a raid?
A raid is a public PvP event that’s scheduled and announced publicly where two groups battle for victory with a specific objective. These battles have a minimum capture setting, most often 1. Raids can be almost any size, but it should generally be possible to create roughly 5 matchups from the people who sign up. These battles are for the main factions involved and prioritize combatants from those factions rather than allies. Characters with low amounts of activity over the past weeks and those outside the faction are not prioritized.

Death is possible in every raid; however, if someone is captured, they can not be immediately killed until interventions have been determined and have occurred. Each faction in a raid gets one intervention to attempt to save their captured comrades; the intervention matchup is generally made based on IC, though attempts are made to ensure it’s a balanced matchup.

What are the potential goals of raids?
There are currently five potential raid objectives to choose from. They are as follows:
Kidnapping: An attempt to capture a specific member of a faction. The target of the raid will have a higher cap roll in their fight (2 higher than the minimum cap roll). If the target does not fight in the raid and the defending faction loses, they will be automatically captured by the winning side.
Jailbreak: An attempt to release a specific member of a faction captured by an opposing one. This doesn't grant immunity to the target or prevent any action from the opposing side however, and ideally it is an improntu raid (hosted on the night) with strong IC backing/organization.
Razing: An attempt to destroy a specific building in a faction. This doesn’t include towers and fortresses, but can include prominent prop structures. If a faction has towers, only building and props around them can be targeted by a razing attempt.
Pillaging: An attempt to steal valuable goods from an opposing faction. The side that wins the raid gains an additional loot item. Additionally, for these raids the cost of additional loot items is reduced to 15,000 coins per.
Siege: An attempt to lay siege to an opposing faction. These types of raids can involve between one and three battles, depending on the amount of hearts the defending faction has. This will vary depending on the prosperity of the kingdom, their influence and history, and current standings.

Are there spoils of war?
Yes. There are two ways for items to be added to the loot pool for all raid types, discounting pillaging raids. The first is with coin. Factions can contribute 20,000 coins to add an item to the loot pool for their raids; each faction can do this up to 3 times, and as long as they win enough matchups, their faction is guaranteed to get the number of items they paid for.

After a date for the raid has been organized, a staff member will contact the raid leaders and question if they intend to contribute any funds to the raid itself. Funds will be collected shortly before the raid and should be given by the raid leader themself.

How do I start one?
The first thing to do when starting a raid is to declare it on the public events sub-forum. Clearly note the intentions of the raid and set the scene for the attack. The raid leaders on each side should discuss and come to an agreement on a raid date that’s scheduled within 3 days of the initial posting of the raid thread. Don’t declare a raid if you want to wait a week or longer for the event to be scheduled.

The template for making a raid declaration post is as follows, including a description of what each field refers to:
Raid Leader: This is the individual posting the raid declaration on the attacking side. If the defending faction makes a response post to the raid thread, it should include mention of who the raid leader is on their side.
Objective: This is the goal of the raid. The different potential objectives are listed above; if you wish to do a raid and don’t think your objective is listed, contact a member of staff for advice!
Target: This is the target of your raid. For jailbreak and kidnapping raids, this would be a specific person. For razing, a specific building or prop. For sieges, the faction you’re attempting to siege. For pillaging raids, this would effectively be an idea of the type of item you want to be able to get from the raid.

What if my question wasn’t answered?
If you have a question that wasn’t answered here, feel free to make a ticket in-game or DM a staff member to ask it. Depending on the question, it’s entirely possible the answer could be added to this post in the future!
