The Aureate Paupers

Near the border to the Shadowlands, yet yalms from Aphros' capital proper, there lies a village bereft of name. A place long forgotten and stripped of identity. Formed as a collective of dedicated farmers, the village dates back a hundred years. Yet the soil was not good, the location poor. Those who once lived with purpose fell into indolence. Most gave up their works, most abandoned the village for Aphros' eastern district to live lives of poverty. Those who still reside are but simple-minded fools, beggars and thieves who find joy only in alchemic drug and booze. They are far, far gone.

So why should anyone care, now that they are under attack?

Barricades surround the long-ignored village. Bandits prepare their blades, their axes, and ready themselves to gorge themselves in blood. Their goal is complete pillaging and annihilation of the villa, and they have been preparing for a long, long time. Word is, those of this village have something worth finding... There is not much time before they advance, and so a messenger breaks through the barricades. They go to those who offer redemption to all, in hopes their promises are not empty. The missive reaches the Church of Aspera.
