Being sad makes me happy.

Yeah, I'm supposed to be dead right now.

The tribe shaman said I absorbed too much mana. The occult taint would kill me.
-
Jokes on him, though. I guess he didn't see that giant, spiky thing coming at him.

And when I was seven, I watched my dad eat my mom.

I was kind of impressed, really. Even in his occultic throes..

He still found the time and understanding to cut her up..

And cook her, just like someone carves up a nice, fat boar.

You couldn't be sad out there. Or angry. The negative emotions were like fertilizer for the occult.

Now that I can choose, now that I'm free of that place?

I choose to be sad. Because I finally can be.

What is the worth of one second?

Is it worth waiting a thousand other seconds for?

Is it worth wading through tides of blood, to see your apex?

Is it worth changing yourself entirely, for one singular individual?

The first time she touched my hand, I lost myself in it's grip.
A Knight of the Bastion, proud and sure, who swore an oath to protect friend and kin.

Who has upheld that oath to the best of their ability.

Who has struck down Nethradin, Demon, and Undead alike.

So why does one single touch make me hesitate?
One single name make me afraid of my choices?
One single conversation cause me to lose myself?
One moment in time, one second, to make a choice?
One chance to make or break, and I ask for an extension?
One
more

second?

When my world was on the verge of collapsing, as I had to express genuine sorrow for the first time.
You.

When I lost my senses, and sought to strike down one who could be reasoned with.
You.

When I threw myself in front of a Nethradin, and let it poison my mind, just to protect.
You.

So why, then

     with one more second

could I not just express fully

                      That I

A half finished book, one buried in a pile of other half finished books in the corner of a purple goblin's room.

Sorted and put away, this one is different than the others. Most of them are simple religious texts or manifestos on spirit summoning and the like, but this one has an author that is not found anywhere else in the collection.

The book is signed, simply,

"To Falke, from Estelmaroon".

Though the book isn't finished, it's a classic fairy tale story. A knight, named Zero, and a noble, with a name once penned as 'John', but long since having been scratched out and rewritten as 'Fable'. The story dictates how the Knight was so intent on impressing the princess, that Zero would often go out on long hunting trips, returning with exotic pelts and stories of grandeur. However, the Princess is never impressed, not for the tales nor for the trophies. When all seems lost, a third party unites them in a room, where they speak, finally, for the first real time-

And in a moment of genuine attachment, the two find they have similar interests. Outside of slaughter, the Knight is an avid reader. Outside of combat, both enjoy watching as the sun rises through their windows. Outside of bloodshed, the Knight finds that Fable is incredibly poignant in their speech, able to talk down all but the most violent of creatures.

The book reaches a crescendo, where on a singular moonlit night, just as the Noble is about to reveal a secret to the entire world- The Knight stops them, and they embrace, and they kiss. Once, lovingly.

The last line in the book.

It does not matter what secret you hide from me. To Hel and back, I will follow you. There is not another soul I would want to spend eternity with, rather than you.

--

But the book was never finished, it seems.
