Beyond The Veil
I still recall when first I bore
Through the ether, stygian to my core
To forbidden spheres long lost to time
That stretch the mortal mind sublime
There in the deep I quested far
Moved by a wayward wanderer's star
Seeking what truths might yet be found
In those darkened barrens profound
Over lifetimes I persisted still
Spurred by ambition's iron will
Piercing veil after endless veil
My sanity threatening to fail
For few can grasp the mental toll
Required to endure that dead space roll
Witnessing things no words can tell
Hearing the shrieks of outer hell
Lost in those yawning, abyssal nights
Bereft of warmth or caress of light
I saw civilizations rise and fall
Minds break beneath the carnival
Feasted on by nameless things
That slithered closer on shadowed wings
Perversions of nature, warpings of law
Things no human mind should ever see
In my quest to unveil all I could
I risked more than mortal means should
Ever endure of that dark display
That stretched infinitely in its sway
Now returned I can but relay
Warnings to those who wish to stray
Into the madness I once called home
Know it waits, just beyond our zone...
