In a shockingly rare occurrence, the Umbral Captain of the Bastion posts a missive that extends beyond the bounds of Gloomlight's walls. Normally absent from the back and forth declarations and open letters that are often times exchanged between the great powers of Meranthe, the goblin captain puts pen to paper once more.
"I have made a promise, and I intend to deliver. Now especially in the face of so many sacrifices made by Gloomlight's finest, and those from abroad who chose to make the ultimate sacrifice for the common good of the people. There has been time for mourning, but there has also been time for preparation. Plucked from the jaws of the Tower spawn, we have developed a means to fully purge the parasite within the spire once and for all, and we have secured a route to floor 99. Forged to be the bane of all Joseph Aetius' works, what was once a tool of pure destruction will find itself our saving grace."
"This is a call to all those who would stand up for the sake of their people being able to rest easy at night, and for all those who would banish this sickness that has taken root within the Tower. I seek not only those who are willing to fight, but those who have the talents necessary to secure it once it's done. Plans are under development, but work has begun on a more permanent solution to prevent this from happening again. I call out to any and all Barrier magi, Holy magi, artificers and more. Anyone who thinks they can contribute to one of the greatest projects of our time."
"And to all those who are willing to fight, I welcome you with open arms. However, I will say the same thing I said to our forces the moment I led them against the beast that had nested within Gloomlight's territory."
"You may meet your end."
"This is not an idle warning or a frivolous point of caution. People have died in the pursuit of this solution we now bare, and anyone who stands alongside us should understand what they're risking for the sake of a safer world. Anyone who does not wish to risk life and limb should be aware of this. This is not a flight of fancy, nor is it some manner of dungeon romp. One wrong move and you may very well perish, or worse yet. Live to see those you care about fall. But to all the brave who hear that and still are not deterred... I welcome you. I believe you'll find yourself in good company."
"...And to those who would claim to be the forces of 'good'? I had not intended to have to put an addendum to this letter, and yet you manage to consistently find ways to disappoint me. Both with your conduct and your sense of priorities."
"I look forward to hearing how you justify to your citizens that you've chosen to pursue meaningless grudges over prioritizing the safety of Meranthe. I'm sure you'll look as small from the top of the Tower as you do now." - Tecuani Aldana, Umbral Captain of the Bastion.
