The region surrounding the Tower of Aetius has continued to flourish since the Invocation of Enarr and Gala; magical beasts of all shapes and sizes swarm the wilderness, and the flora is in a constant bloom, overtaking the small villages that once dwelt there. It is an excess of life; sightings of the flowered wolf Asena occasionally surging through the sky overhead are not uncommon, if dubiously claimed.
Yet despite its prime state, there is an ominous feeling in the air, ever since the Supreme Etriath failed to claim the Black Pearl; his own occult magic turned against him, puppeted by the False-Akuma Lirael Equisol and cast back into the shadow of the Crescent Fortress. There is a distinct, scratching feeling of decay felt by those who are attuned to the flow of the lifestream, and it all leads towards the depths of the Tower of Aetius...
What awaits there?
Rural peasantry swear that tremors in the deep west are more common, as well. Earthquakes that rattle the land with its groans are scattered across the four winds. Isolated complaints, distant from the great kingdoms of the world.
But soon a runegate will become lively within the Tower of Aetius.

Following the Departure of the Three Sisters, those that commit to their daily prayer rites are overcome with an unusual sensation of grief. It burdens the senses with the weight of mourning; they begin to hear the whispers of phantoms and ghosts, subtly, things that shouldn't be there, the gravitas of life and death heavier than usual. The spiritual level of Meranthe has risen uncontrollably and the Tower of Aetius, the great spire and its countless portals, continues to send startling vibrations throughout the world, instability. A connection heightened.
The feeling that something is happening in the cosmos beyond, occurrences within the underworld and the fantastical Ten Realms; it reaches not just Meranthe, but the entirety of Eternia. Magi are mobilized; from Valmasia to Esshar, to Gehenna and Jianghu. To the fortress of Undeath flying overhead to the Cloud Citadel, and the Lighthouse of Agartha and Nyphadora's Worldscape. The world is aware, and making its move.
The Demon King's emissary has sent a missive to the Crescent Fortress and its Moonfallen: 'Your Supreme will know what to do. Follow him. Fail us and suffer a slow death for it.'
Riftmancers and Wayfinders feel empowered. Like they have the key to any door; the distance between the physical and incorporeal fading in beats.
Preparations must be made, for what is to transpire waits for no one...

Fifteen parties entered the Tower of Aetius and into the Hollow World. Many died, many were brutally maimed.
After surviving the Lighthouse, the Descendant, the Knights of Lodeus and the Lich...
It is learned that Vdali was unsealed, believed to be an act of betrayal by one of the Pantheon's most trusted. With the aid of the magi, he is imprisoned once more.
The heart of Vdali, however, an object capable of stopping time, destroying cities, and enacting an ice age is vulnerable.
On return, the parties discover that much of the Tower of Aetius was shattered. Many of its runegates destroyed or scattered across Meranthe.
