Extinction (Certain Death)

Under the direct authorization of Oracle Thomas G. Equisol, Astra Knight Captain Justia, Former Commander of the Bastion Hajime Akatsuki, Knight-Captain Tandava, and Knight-Commander Garret Richter;

A new watchtower has been repurposed for use by the scouts of the Bastion, a project directed and now under the direct supervision of the Astra Knight Nix Bargiel. Assisted by Umbra Knight Niaelyn and the newly appointed Commander Barron. Situated at the crossroads and river separating Gloomlight Grove and Martyr's Vigil from the northeast of Meranthe, the Bagelkeep's scouts have been tasked with surveilling the surrounding area, regularly sending reports to both the Bastion and the Goldlight Order. This effort is directed not only against the invading forces of Atrellya but also to monitor the movement of undead and demons.

Travelers passing by are made aware of the constant activity between trainees from Gloomlight and volunteers from the Vigil. Joint exercises are conducted frequently around wooden walls reinforced with iron, ensuring that those who seek to bring harm to Meranthe are wary of the watchtower’s eye.

North of Meranthe, a great, demonic shroud blots out the sky; it is vaguely shaped with multiple dragonic wings, and the occasional flare of unlight, engulfing the galaxy above. The Perfect Demon Indras takes flight to join the battle personally, in full strength, for a long anticipated reunion.

Encroaching remains from the armies that decimated the Final Frontier moved east. The lands within Delphina’s territory a safely guarded one, Her forests strong and oft touched by illusionary magics. The realm’s capital city a great safe haven, yet her success is as great as the rest. Deployed Elzara members from Dal’Thala traveled to surrounding territories in response to their call for aid. Lurking remnants Atrellya forces posed an issue to the outskirts and posed a threat to the realm’s maintained stalwart defense.

The established ranger unit deployed there with the aid of Prince Soryn Caewynn, meeting and working alongside Captain Altan and her unit of Leafblades. Morale drastically lowered at the very idea that threat might follow upon their great realm, but continued success from the Dal’Thalan Leafblades stoked their feigned hearts. Combined with skillful, apt strength and cunning charisma, their contributions aided tremendously in locating a rogue Atrellyan necromancer. Her havoc to the west thwarted, slaves freed and demonic allies felled.

A grand boost to the Elzara’s morale. Additional rangers have been trained in the nearby territories. They blend in with the trees, on constant watch of whatever may wander closer than it need be. In Nemea’s grace and Lumin King’s honor, the forests lush and dense as a result of the added bladed leaves in its canopy.

The realm's success in the ruins of Prospera cannot go ignored. Despite the loss, tremendous ground was maintained and lingering, key demonic forces properly removed by the Lumin King's summer exhalation.

+ 5,000 defense from the Elzara fortification of the forests
37,000
+ 2,000 from ritual success in Prospera's ruins
 ↓
39,000

Total Defense for the Realm of Delphina: 39,000

As part of a ritual done in the Traverse, involving the sacrifice of 100 of each elemental crystal, 500 luminite, 10 eternite, the Tarot of Memoria, and the life of Elizabeth Montelione, 69 faith was sacrificed in excess of the ritual's minimum intent (for a total of 119 faith).

Where are those excess energies of faith and fate directed?
A powerful hex of bad luck directed at the forces of Atrellya across the land.

The ritual grants not a hex but perhaps an Invocation. Seers of Memoria (like Dunsman) receive visions of grave futures. The golden threads of fate gleamed through Elizabeth's sacrifice.

The once Demon Sage (of Time), Ime.
An ancient trickster of Indras, long-lived but youthful. One of the original prophets that sent the demon clans to sweep Esshar by storm. Retired, now summoned by the Destroyer-Of-Worlds to perform their destruction ritual against the kingdoms of Meranthe.

To step into this Demon Sage's ritual is to witness spectral memories of centuries ago; the shining kingdom against an encroaching unlight. A bygone era of knights lose the last shard of Indras to Atrellya.

Will Meranthe suffer the Seven Demon Clans?

The Abyssal Dragon had fallen once before after all...

Within the sacred grounds of Mavethkar, the impending doom thrust upon those tasked with the defense of their Homeland did not escape its residents.
Plans had been made prior to the culminating event seeing the severity of the circumstances,
the Mephans and residents of Mavethkar would regroup elsewhere - however, one lone Mephan refuses to leave Mavethkar in its darkest hour.

Her name, was Vena Mephan - the Twin sister of Zathrian Mephan, the daughter of Urano, and Ophis.

Quote:Vena Mephan "Yeah? Well I was raised here, in that tower, in that castle."

Vena Mephan  "Like hel I'm gonna defend it."
Zathrian Mephan "And die."

Vena Mephan "So be it."
Zathrian Mephan "And what would you have accomplished?"

Vena Mephan "Fighting for my home."
Zathrian Mephan  "I don't know. But if there is no one in Mavethkar."

Zathrian Mephan "You're not allowed to defend it."

Zathrian Mephan "You're aren't defending anything if it's guaranteed destroyed."

Vena Mephan "Not until I die."

"I don't care if I'm alone."

"I'm gonna fight my heart out if I have to."

The grounds of Mavethkar held tremendous significance to the twins, espescially so due to the Gate of Death which had been laid there.
While the young Mephan could not possibly hope to defend the entire Island, she would stand against whatever demonic entity was left to approach Mavethkar, her objective?

Defend the gate of Death with her life, and in so, make an attempt saving the defining factor of Mavethkar from destruction.

She had a month to prepare - after having endured The Rite of Threshold she was invigorated, and dedicated to defending what was not hers, but the property of her Grandmother Salem, and Lady Death herself.

She assumed an unorthodox approach, she knew it would be entirely useless to try to weaken the Perfect Demon dispatched to her home, so instead? She aims to make herself as strong as possible by turning Mavethkar into a battlefield, where everything could be used to her benefit in battle, to achieve this she sacrificed her entire horde.

Her gravitational magic is utilised to destroy everything except the castle, tower and gate - she then infuses the battered terrain with crushed Adamantite, effectively creating highly conductive shrapnel in wait for her enemy, to be exploited by her gravitational mana.

She doesn't stop there, she goes further - trying to make any advantage she could to empower herself. In specific chunks of terrain, beside the Adamantite she placed Viridum, crushed in the same nature, but ultimately much lesser and more limited than the Adamantite, she meant business, and she wasn't going to spare any expense, nor suffer a lack of creativity. Tyrium was placed in large excess within specific areas, they had been made into sharp, yet easily breakable shards, she hoped her enemy would not notice them within the utter destruction that laid beyond the Gate of Death, Tower, and Castle.

She constructs makeshift defenses - in several layers before the gate of death. The first layer was made of Blue Mercury, it was jagged and sharp, it was easy to destroy, but if it had been, once more shrapnel would be a threat her enemy would face. The second layer was made with Copper, and Iron. A much more sturdy defense, and it had been ever so slightly coated in Nyeshk. The final layer was built entirely of Mythril - creating three distinct barriers to prevent the gate of death from being destroyed.

And with her work concluded, she sends a prayer to her Constant, the Lady of Death, Mortyl - as well as her Grandmother Salem.

"Lady of Death, hear my call. Our home lays in great peril, but I have not abandoned what means more than the world to us.

By the might of Morana,

By the Apathy of Salem,

And by the Remembrance, and grief of Bronach,

Provide me the power to do what is necessary for our home!"

She did all she possibly could - to ensure the best chance of survival for the Gate of Death, even if it would cost her - her own life.

Some would find that for once in the many passing years of the Nest, it looked to be at its most active. However while such found preparations for war, much of it looked to be made clear as things were being stored away and packed. The Egg most of all could be seen in the Commander's care, as much was being moved over.

Quote:For years these lands were my home, I have watched many Drakanite kin of old and young find comfort in these lands. It was something that put much of a smile on my face than anything else. But the time grows dark, the likes of death creep close upon our borders.

The me of years ago would stand ground, fight to the last man and feel pride that in the end we did not yield to the likes of monsters. But such wars have humbled me, the loss of many good drakanites and warriors who swore under my leadership now mark many urns. Their sacrifice remembered forever more to ensure the safety of our own kin.

So in that honor, I shall see to find the best for my own people and it is for that.... we shall find comfort in the snow

-Commander Mio Kazana

With the help of proficient way finders, many were able to find evacuation, looking to save the lives of those who remained under his lands. For what would come of their home, it was the Herald herself to raise the earth from such dangers.

A beam of silverlight is seen across Meranthe where the initial battle took place. Harmonizing with the soul of the Ent Efespane, and taking countless dead Demons- and the willing dead- a symphony is weaponized, destroying the Perfect Demon, by the spell of Vdali-reborn, Vinaska. Dread washes over his followers, and a strange sense of relief for those still fighting, despite unaware of the details.  @Global

Meranthe's kingdoms remain ablaze and in despair. All suffer at least partial damage, but this will mend in time with the honest labor of humanity. Londo, Dragon's Nest, Mavethar, and the Traverse are not so fortunate, turned to ruins and destroyed (48 hour notice; individual fates to be determined by DMs).

The empowered Blacklight's ritual reaches out across Meranthe in an unseen dome. Countless Demons (kaor level and below) are transformed into Magical Beasts within the country, and should any dare to enter it in the future. A persistent influence that influences future lesson demons as well. (Removal of Demon Race - Occultic Sub-species of Magical Beast. Future update.)

Meranthe has endured, victorious. Mourn for now, but celebrate later.

A massive thank you to those who assisted with the events, and for the participation of the players in this arc. It has been a pleasure to run and I've enjoyed many memorable moments, and I hope you managed to take something away from it, too. If not, future players that will be impacted by the stories written and the histories made. o7
