"Upon the shores of a far-off island, one about an hour south of a major trading island. Locals that pass by on their ships say they see a mermaid sitting on the rocks, crying as she faces the sea for the name of a man nobody knows- centuries have claimed this woman comes every year around the end of summer, calling and crying for the man who died long, long ago. A few locals have reported being able to row up to her and speak to her before she falls into dismay. 

They say she says the same things:

'My husband lies out there beyond the waves... he promised me he would return to me this time a year after he departed from me. ... Every year I wait for him, calling his name... and every time I learn he must be away another year...'

There is word that there is a large population of unknown beasts swimming around the island, more appearing every year, shortly after the mermaid begins to cry. Smaller boats and vessels find their fate at the bottom of the sea when these beasts are nearby- a call of aid is sent to all people with any knowledge of mermaids, be it myth, folklore, research or whatever else. A call that asks everyone with any ideas as to what to do to get the mermaid to stop crying- or how to eradicate these unknown sea beasts- are to meet on the main trading island and set sail to the lone island in search of the mermaid and put an end to whatever is going on there."
