"Don't get too close... Never know what they're carrying."

Quote:
"I come, I go, but you'll never know... Like a cat in a hat, get near and I'll scratch! I rush around the land in search of a good nap, but with playtime enacted. I've come to raise tactics!
Beware of my claws, for those who hold flaws. Beware of my fangs, I don't give a damn.

It is I

the Big Cat

Prepare to get snatched.

Talk of this whimsical tune has finally reached the ears of all merchants in Esshar. Some even coming to fear the woods outside not simply for the sake of avoiding the dangers of animals and syndicate alike, but for what song is sung before claws sent them on the run.

Whatever the case may be. The big cat seems to appear wherever the syndicate was said to have been.

CDR needs to not round down
Posted by: Peep 'Puff' Topia - 12-12-2019, 04:28 PM - Forum: Suggestions - Replies (1)

Something bothered me earlier about hearing certain cooldowns so I decided to make a test character to see something.

Taking the following Cooldowns with 100 AGI, we should expect to see only a 15% reduction in cooldown.

Iron Fist - 15 CD
15% CDR  leaves it at 12.75

But it returns a 12 and, indeed, is 12 seconds cooldown when actually counting.

Axe Kick - 10
15% CDR leaves it at 8.5
Rounds down to 8.

Flying Kick - 14
15% CDR leaves it at 11.9
The game returns 11

I've tested this, there's no 'hang' or 'delay. It's legitimately just rounding down to the number. This is causing agility to give vastly higher returns then it should on low cooldown abilities.

It's, effectively, getting an extra full second when it's on an edge.

It's no wonder that everyone is going Agility when they're getting a crazy return on their CDR with low cooldown abilities. Why wouldn't you? It's effectively up to 20%+ CDR on some abilities!

In summary, tune down CDR.

this ain't nerf, this is fucking trashing unarmed dude
Posted by: Suke - 12-12-2019, 03:22 PM - Forum: Suggestions - Replies (41)

yo guys, you lowered damage + range, now you removed fucking GCDE?

ye, i get that people use stuns and then unload their fuckin spells but what about me who doesn't fuckin use any stuns? now that all the spells have GCD, i can only use ONE spell atm.

It means I get to FLYING KICK, then I have to run away before the smart dude with ARMED is unloading double strike + powersmash into galeforce.

no like, c'mon. nerf the fuckin stuns and give my boi GDCE back, holy shit.

edit = only axe kick is gcde, so it forces us to engage with that, problem is, range so LOW you don't hit shit.

edit suggestion = give heavy punch GCDE, the -DR was nerfed but now with the GCD, we get like 3 secs of the effect.

Wounds and scars had long since acted as a sign of experience. Though, nothing could quite compare to the overwhelming burden it had placed on the shoulders of a Warrior. Those meant to stand as a shining light of brilliance, having been knocked down and beaten time and time again by enemy after enemy.

No more.

There exists whispers of a potion which could restore ones very physique, both body and mind back to their peak physical condition. This oil locked and long since kept secret beneath the surface of Esshar, buried and protected by darkness so that no light may reach it.

Eustace had sought to claim that for himself.

  DR Stacking, why?
Posted by: SmugGod - 12-11-2019, 11:50 PM - Forum: Suggestions - Replies (9)

OH BOY

You know what really grinds my gears? DR stacking, to the point that you have 90%+ DR and can just do whatever with it. Why is this a thing?

My suggestion is to only allow one 'shield' DR to be applied at any given time. No stacking Energy Shield, Drakanite Racial and Fomorian for 100%+ DR, that's just not fun! Small buffs, such as 5-10% and whatnot, are fine to be used with these moves but the 40%+ for 6 seconds DR moves shouldn't be able to stack.

Musings on the Practice of Magic
Posted by: Theori - 12-11-2019, 10:54 PM - Forum: Lore - No Replies

Casting Magic:
Magic may be Freeform -such as a water mage using their magic to freely shape water- or Structured, standard techniques commonly referred to as 'Spells'. Passive magic tends to be more Freeform, whilst Combative magic is usually Structured. Creating the effects, however, usually requires a form of mana expression. Such expression is most often done through one of these methods:

Emotional: In this context, magic is expressed through the conduit of emotion. Depending on the strength and kind of magic being made, this might be feeling slightly cheerful, or being enraged. Magic expressed in this form can occasionally lash out despite a user's conscious intent if they are feeling particularly strong emotion. This method is often used by magi who lacked self control, or who are learning by themselves through trial and error. Even so, it is one of the most common forms of mana expression.

Symbolic: Symbolic expression is the use of components to create a spell through the perception of association. In this context, a spell to shape metal might be created through the focusing on mana through a smith's hammer, for example. It is theorised that much of the common Alchemy recipes were originally designed through symbolic magic, evident through the use of a rabbits foot -symbolising speed- being used in agility boosters. This theory is also supported by the extreme difficulty non-magi have when it comes to practicing Alchemy. Symbolic expression is unique in that it is theorised that common attributions of properties to items have expanded so that items may be used symbolically without the user having any real understanding of this form of mana expression. Whilst an intriguing form of expression that many magical theorist see as worthy of study, its not often taught in the modern day. Symbolic magic is also often seen as the oldest form of magic, as nearly all other forms utilise some basic symbolic aspect, whether that be emotion as symbolic of types of magic, or the use of language being symbolic of the ideas behind the spell.

Incanted: Incanted expression is the use of structured or freefrom magic through the use of words. Incantations in this context may be selected for their syllables, cadence, or connection to the intent of the spell. Due to the latter point, some theorists suggest that incantation is a simpler variant of symbolic magic, though there are enough disputing opinions that a consensus has not been reached. Incanted magic is perfectly viable in both freeform and structured magic, but can be limited by the speed of one's voice. It is, however, extremely effective in ritual magic.

Runic: Runic casting is something of an incorrect term, as the common association with runes is that it requires knowledge of the divine language of Angels. Whilst this true in the case of the type of runesmithing common to enchanting, as well as the rare Runecasting ability, Runic expression more broadly refers to the use of language in magical expression. An Astyan using this method might, for example, trace in mana the Astyan word for 'fireball' to create a fireball, or with practice, merely 'fire' encircled. This form of expression pairs well with Incanted magic in ritual.

Instinctive: The mana expression most often used by experienced magi, Instinctive magic is often the result of years of practice with a given magic. The magi has become so proficient with their spells, so attuned to their magic, that they can create the effects of any sufficiently practiced spell by mere thought alone, abandoning the use of incantations, language, symbolic item or emotional input. Reaching a point where one can cast their entire magical repertoire in such a manner is one of the commonly considered points of Mastery.

These methods are not the only forms of mana expression, and debate continues as to whether they're different methods at all. As magic is a rather esoteric art it often eludes exact explanation, and it is quite possible no-one but Kraus himself is truly certain of the truth of it.

Exclamation The disappearance of magic
Posted by: Whatever - 12-11-2019, 07:05 PM - Forum: Lore - No Replies

Through a largely unknown process the soul generates a renewable energy within it. Humans under the direction of God-like Angelic beings have come to call this substance 'Mana'. A life force with near infinite potential, it is the hallmark of all known creation. Every living thing radiates it, to be alive is to produce the blood of miracles. Even the simple world around us resonates with it, as the lifestream is woven into the fabric that we all reside on. It can be theorized that whatever process it is that grants consciousness may well create this substance as a simple byproduct.

One need not look any further than to the legends of first creation to see it.

When all souls in existence were new they had shone brightly. The potential for magic was beyond our basic understandings of what is possible today. Each human was imbued with the powers of Angels, with the might to create reality from dreams and their own aspirations. A simple flaw in the Angelic design was avoided with humanity, the need to harm the soul in order to use what was hidden inside. It is known that where an Angel must rupture their very being in order to cast a spell, humans utilize a self-contained system.

Their souls did not need to be harmed to create magic.

But as the aeons have passed a noticeable change in the world was beginning to occur. Where humanity once had the power to change its surroundings with but an involuntary thought, they now needed to think hard about what they wished to accomplish. The Arch-Angel Kraus applauded the humans for their curiosity, implored us to continue to learn magic and to explore its potential. But the more we did so, the weaker we began to grow.

As though he knew something we could not have known.

By the time recorded history was upon us, few humans were born with an innate ability to modify the world around them. It became a case where those who were learned could manipulate specific elements, but only ever the limited few their leylines could contain the memory of. Most of the population on Eternia were considered 'non-magi' by this point. Few and far between, mages became the dominant figures in societies across the world. Much of their past had been lost by now or simply turned into legend and myth. Impossible figures with power beyond even the strongest mages wildest dreams, it was thought a fantasy.

One thing could be certain by now. Magic was dying.

Certain scholars have come to believe that the process that generates mana within the soul is beginning to wear out. With each passing generation magic becomes more difficult to control and the creatures of the dark are growing lesser in number. Demons once ruled from the nightmares of man. Now they are but beasts found in the darkest corners, a dying breed ill-forged, now wasting away with the world around us.

From the illusive creatures known as Fae, to the endangered species known as Dragons; Magic was growing weary and it was becoming ever more apparent that the souls in all living things were slowly becoming unable to fuel the processes that govern miracles. Creatures sustained entirely by magic and mana may soon grow too weary to survive this eventual transition the world is heading into. Some day the Magi of today who find old schools of magic to be lost arts unable to be replicated, may too become lost to history as myth and legend.

As technology blooms and the world advances we may find the beauty of the strange and the wonderful to be more precious than we could possibly appreciate at this time.
