It has been dark, daunting days for the people of Audhild. People taking the time to mourn, to grief for the fallen.
Yet during those very days, at a house on the west corner of Audhild?
Lights can be seen flashing from the upper floor during the night.
the sounds of hammer knocking on nail and metal, of a roaring drill, and crackling electricity.
In those days of mourning, with the rubbles of the Langslay district still fresh and visible on the horizon?
A young boy got to work, with but a few scant moments of rest.
Eventually, a new notice has been placed upon the board in Audhild by the very same boy, explaining the disturbance:
"Greetings all, I'm Benjamin Thomson. Some of you might know me, some may not.
With the passing of Zemheri, Audhild has lost a man of great wisdom, experience, and knowledge. A man many saw like a father figure, with me hoping to look up to him as a mentor for my studies.
With him gone, a hole has opened up in the city in his absence.
I am not anywhere near his skill, nor do I have the same knowledge he had.
However, for us to move forward? To reach a brighter future and keep Audhild standing?
We all have to make an effort, and this mine:
I'm opening up a lab in my house's upper floor, to assist the people of Audhild in whatever kind creations and gadgets they'll might need.
I want the Audhild to remain a luxury, life, dreamers, art, merchantmanship, and craft.
Thus, I'll be doing my part.
I'll be taking requests from people outside of Audhild too.
Depending on the kind of request however? I may ask for coin in compensation as I'll need it to keep the lab running and to eventually work on my own projects."
And with that written down? Time for me to get back to work, for Audhild and Science's sake.
For now, the flashes of light, and tumultuous sounds from the house's upper floor continue...

A year has passed since the lab's creation, with some projects at the planning phase while others are currently at the executing phase.
In the meantime, resources have been utilized to build a new infirmary at the city of progress.
One with walls made out of canvas, but in times of crisis it shall serve.
More peculiarly, a new medical treatment plan is now in offer to those who seek it, advertised on Audhild's notice board:
"Ever felt that your magical circuitry just isn't working right? That your mana flow is blocked?
During my medical studies, I, Benjamin Thomson, learned that the magical circuitry can build up detritus or 'plaque', which can interfere with the flow of one's mana.
Just as importantly, in those studies I have also learned how to remove it via a method similar to acupuncture - Without needles involved, to those that might fear them.
I'll be willing to do it for free to any mage living in Audhild.
To those that live outside and want to go through the same treatment however? The price per treatment will be 500c."
With the offer now available, it is up in the air at present on whether there'll be anyone willing to give the treatment a chance.

As Audhild has slowly recovered over the years with new housings and new faces, taking a more active scene across the lands of meranthe, the lab at the edge of the city kept working throughout the days and nights.
With the mantle of 'Head Researcher' thrusted upon him, Benjamin Thomson has made his own announcement with a notice, placed upon the city square's notice board:
"With me being given the job of Head Researcher, I'll like to announce the following matters:
- I am giving the name 'Thomson Industries' to my lab, so that it shall no longer be but the strange workplace on the outskirts of the city.
- To assist Audhild's defensive force, I am offering aid to the guard in the form of weapons, armors, and gadgets free of charge. In a continent where demons, undead, and their sympathizers get to run amok, we must not let ourselves be caught unprepared.
- An Audhild centered research team shall be formed, to gather all the intellectual minds into the same group, name still pending. I'll be allowing those of Audhild who show interest in joining into the group, with those outside the city only allowed to join as well on a case-by-case basis. My goal is for the research team to focus inwards for the benefit of the city, and a collective mind ought to perform better than ones scattered out into their own corners.
- Lastly, I'll be unveiling the information of my most recent innovations, which will be written in a folder placed inside, Edhellen, the Library of Knowledge.
It is an act I plan to repeat for any future creation ideally, as I staunchly believe that for science to advance? Information has to be shared, and be public for all.
Signed,
Benjamin Thomson, Head Researcher."
True to his word? The folder could be found within the library soon after, containing the information over two creations of note:
Quote:Shadow Rubber:
"A rubber made from the sap of Briarwood, empowered by the mystical forces that dwelled within the bark. Great for insulation not just against the elements, but also against toxicity and occultic energies, a trait inherited from the briarwood itself.
The steps for its creation were as follows:
- Use a hooked blade to diagonally cut into the briarwood log. Keep cutting until the sap comes out.
- Hammer in a bladed spout at the bottom part of the cut, to funnel the leaking sap into a bucket.
- When you have enough sap? Pour it into a plastic bowl, add formic acid (taken out of a crellus' body), and swish around the contents so that the acid will make the sap coagulate.
- After around 15 minutes have passed for the acid to do its work, pour out the now solidified mixture and flatten it properly with a rolling pin.
- Rinse the flattened sheet with a base made out of alessa extract to counteract the acid. The rinsing needs to be quick, to not risk ending up with the reverse issue of the sheet now being drenched with a base instead.
- Let the sheet rest and bask in the sun, to dry out any remaining water or other liquids.

Quote:Miniature Black Hole:
"A glossy black sphere of super-condensed nyshek, with artifical magic circuits made out of adamantite. The ball itself acts like an anomalyin the laws of physics while in a relaxed state:
The sphere conjures a gravity forced to resist the earth's pull and thus float in space.
Yet, it has its own gravity field, able to draw dust and rubble into orbit, forming a circular ring.
- Prepare a round metallic sphere made out of an adamantite core with nyshek as its outer layer.
- Set up a system that'll make the sphere float for the next phase. In our experiment? We used a levitiation system based around magnetic forces produced from wire coils when electricity flows through it, followe by magnetizing the sphere itself.
WARNING!
The next step is dangerous, and requires appropriate safety measurements to be taken or else you might end up sucked in and crushed by the amplified gravity force that'll come from the sphere.
Do the next step in an area where damage to infrastructure and the surrounding landscape will be minimized, and prepare safety cables to keep you anchored to the ground no matter what.
- With the aid of a gravity magic wearing protective gloves against heat, use a welder to heat up the sphere until the nyshek layer gets close to its melting point. Once the gravity mage drinks a rebirth potion to make their mana circuits more fluid and moldable? Have them touch the ball with the protective gloves, and extend their magic circuits into the ball, concentrating all the gravity magic they can muster into the sphere.
WARNING!
This method can cause a permament chance to the gravity mage, making them lose their affinity to gravity based magic in the process. If such risk is considered undesirable? Consider an alternative method to the third step.

OOC Notes: I would've added the folder in game into the library, but with the game deleting books from bookcases every reboot? I've decided to post the inventions within the htread in the meantime.
If anyone wants to contact Benjamin Thomson for a scene, or has suggestions for the research team's name? My discord name is detective100
Edits done. Turns out that trying to put words in the center in a numbered list can get the forum post all screwed up

"It took longer than I would've liked, but I'm updating the folder today."
True to his word, Benjamin Thomson has added new inventions into the folder contained within Audhild's library:
Petal Decorated Crystal Ball
"A sphere forged from fire crystals that have been heated and compressed into a single large unit. The surface of the ball is infused with petals plucked out from Saniskriti flowers, which resulted in an intricate pattern across asphere that is now capable of absorbing and releasing solar energy."
The steps for its creation:
- Pluck out the petals from Saniskriti flowers and put in a container for safe keeping.
- Take the fire crystals, them into shards. Place the shards in a copper cast and heat them up with the forge until the crystals melt and connect with one another. The copper cast expands during the heating, which will compress the fire crystals into a single unit in turn.
- Once you have a solid crystal sphere? Write runes* on the petals to harden, then add runes that'll combine the petals into the surface of the sphere to prepare them for infusion into the crystal ball.
- After the preperations are complete? simply press the petal onto the crystal ball while sending mana into the runes to activate them, infusing the petals one by one into the crystal ball until its surface area is covered with the petals.
*- Given the vast, innumerable options when it comes to runes? There's a high probability that there is more than one set of rune to accomplish the task. If you're curious as to the set of runes used by Benjamin Thomson himself, you may contact him via letter or face to face to inquire about them.

Tyrium-tipped Viridium Bullet.
"A bullet specially made to pierce through a mage's magical protections with the tyrium's tip, and act like poison in the body thanks to the toxic aura radiating from the viridium.
Word of caution:
While I'm publishing the information about the bullet due to my belief in letting all information be public? I implore you, the reader, to not use that bullet against your fellow men. I have never tested it on a living magi, and I hope I'll never have to."
The steps for its creation:
- Prepare a model of the bullet. The material of the matter, so long as it is solid.
- With the model as a base, prepare a casting mold. I used a metal casting filled with resin sand for my casting mold.
- Melt the viridium and the tyrium together in a forge or furnace in a ladle, and remove any impurities such as the slag by-product.
- Use a metallic rod with a tip that has the shape of a disc with a circumference ratio similar to the opening of the ladle so that you can push down on the molten metals and compress them. Beforehand, add runes to the disc that once triggered will alter the properties of the metals to make them denser.
- Place a leather strap over the leather strap with runes that'll help by seperating the tyrium and viridium apart to their appropriate spots within the mold.
- Pour the molten metals into the casting mold, and trigger the runes on the leather strap to adjust the ratio between the two metals within the mold accordingly.
- Once the metals cooled down? Take it out of the casting mold, cut off any excess metal that is still attached from the pouring tunnel or the air tunnels, and grind away the imperfections with a grinding wheel.

Besides the updating of inventions within the folder, a list of possible craftsmen in Audhild together with their expertises was also added in the folder with a note written before it:
"Audhild is a city of craft and trade, but before any of that can happen one has to know the option exists. This list will provide the people of Audhild and beyond a way to find those of like-minded interests to converse with, or perhaps negotiate for their assistance.
Should anyone else from Audhild seek to have their name be added to the list? All they need to do is contact me.
P.S: The name of the list might change in the future. Someone once suggested the name 'Audhild Research Team', or 'A.R.T' for short, which may become official one day."
