  The Gloomy Outpost
Posted by: Reddle - 10-05-2024, 03:06 PM - Forum: In Character - No Replies

Sometime during morning the northern outpost tower of Gloomlight when quiet after screams and laughter could be heard for a small moment in time. There wasn't any to witness the events of what happen there but the smell of death filled the air near the outpost. Though there were witnesses to what happen afterwards and many say that a jester was dragging dead bodies into a pile and doing something with them.

The guards that were on guard duty that morning was all dead.

But the jester who did this was caught in the act once he had finished up with the work he did.

Some report that shots were fired and the noting of another body near the tower before a battle took place between monsters. Though the jester was the one who was sent packing away from the outpost as he was thrown into a small pond nearby and sank down into the pond. The report didn't note whether or not the jester was down for the count or not, but it also states that a rattling laughter still echoed the forest for awhile.

That was the end of the report, and one thing was for sure that Gloomlight's outpost needed a new set of guards.

  Of Monsters And Men...

"If Humans and Demons are rival species, then surely they must understand... Yes?... No. Of course, they don't. Yet, I am to believe them to be my equal... Nay. This curse of mine is what gives them their edge."

In Terminus' attempts to discover a counterspell for his curse, a means of ascension, an escape from his perceived fragility -- he finds himself listening to the whispers and thoughts of his enthralled worshippers. Amongst nonmagus cultists enraptured by his insidious castings of the profane, word had it that a rogue group of nonmagi were tracking down some kind of Hel-ish artifact. The claims are farfetched, given the craziness of the concept. However, the Demon Patron was growing desperate by now. If there was even a chance that such a claim held any weight? That his struggle could finally see resolution? It had to be confiscated before it could be sold off to a settlement or warring faction. Besides, how much trouble could meager humans cause?

With the small gaggle of nonmagus cultists under the belief of him being their Patron? Terminus intends to drive them into an Unholy skirmish against the rival group's encampment while they appear vulnerable -- invoking a sacrificial ritual of grandiose proportions! What he did not expect, however? Was that the group would have competent magus guards among them, initiating a race between Terminus' cult and this group of treasure hunters.
"True Divinity... Perfect Divinity, will not be denied from me. It is my Destiny..."

Would the cult manage to stop them in time to confiscate their loot?
Would the hunters manage to slip from the cult long enough to make it to the safety of a settlement?
If stopped, would the loot even manage to be worth the effort?

  Blood and Gold

"Demonic blood is unwelcome in my sight; a pity you fell so low Natrix."

A final clashing of blows between swordsman Altan and axe-wielding berserker Natrix in a deadly duel to the death led to the slaying of human-now-cambion Natrix by the blade of the Doth'ral. The current location of the Doth'ral camp north of Londo, within the plains was no doubt already spread, and with it those passing by could perhaps catch witness of a statue made in resemblance to the recently slain Natrix.

The physical reminder of those who seek to cross the Doth'ral's interests; the mnemonic statue of a previously respected warrior.

A warning for those who continuously wander into their encampment.

  Enigmatic Site Of... Prayer?
Posted by: The Iron Jaw - 10-05-2024, 04:45 AM - Forum: In Character - Replies (3)

Word has it that a growing group of non-magi have taken interest in a particular crystal-infested tar pit.

Rumors of magus awakenings, miraculous healings, and even forbidden knowledge are claimed to be offered by an ancient power that lies within.

Even some lesser magi have contributed their mana to leave with control over the Dark Arts.

To delve further into the rumors would reveal the emergence of a cult surrounding a rising Patron, reaching out to those that dare to wander too close. It enthralls the weak-minded, and empowers the bold that reach back. To those curious to investigate? Word of mouth leads them to entranced cultists to their current site of worship.   Those Who Wander The Dark
Posted by: The Iron Jaw - 10-05-2024, 04:16 AM - Forum: Guilds - Replies (2)

It was thought that the venture into the dark proves troublesome, for the journey is often alone...
.

In recent years, a growing number of non-magus cultists have been drawn to the wilds by a stygian siren's call. Pried away from their trade routes, from their banditry, from the cozy lifestyles amongst nigh settlements and beyond...
Promises of solace, of forbidden knowledge, for power, for vitality have caught their ear and drew them in. Entranced by the coo of the Occult, they remain. At the center of it all, an acclaimed deity bestows boons upon them, in turn for a pact.
.
Some would claim it to be an Aspect of Mortyl, others suggest it to be some lesser imitation of Amier. Though, amongst the claims, few are oft repeated:
Balar
The End
Terminus
.
Whether those who approach are non-magi themselves seeking a magus awakening or a mage with aspirations of their own... One thing remained certain -- The cost for such remained the same.
Prayer... And Tribute...
.

Have you ever wondered "What if my Patron was a PC?" Well, wonder no longer! You can have your very own PC Patron today to answer your prayers and offer you boons, all for some prayer RPs, tributes and the nefarious plotting carried out behind the results of your every action across Meranthe!
Now, let's look at what you'll have access to with your new "religion":

He is known by many names. Three of which across Meranthe are "Balar", "The End", and "Terminus". You are free to dub him by any other deemed appropriate by himself and your fellow followers. Champions raised in his name will be granted "Terminus" as their surname to represent their ascension. By interfacing with him, you are granted access to some of the boons he can bestow upon you.
.
Lost Dark Arts
There are many secrets of the Occult. Most know that its primary use invokes destruction... But did you know that with enough mastery? You can redirect what is taken from others? Well, no need to overthink it! Our glorious Patron has mastered the ability to heal most wounds considered temporary by even the most hardy of magus brethren. Some would even claim it can invoke the prowess of several qualified Medical practitioners!
.
Shamanistic Alchemy
Whether it is the desire to be ascended, or a boon that turns you invisible, you too can have access to the intellect and prowess of a Tier 1 Alchemist without the need to invest a single minute into the science!
.
Demonic Conjuration
Have you ever wanted to take revenge on your pesky rival that's always upstaging you? Don't know if you have the power to take them on yourself? Well, nothing is beyond your glorious Patron! With a few rituals and maybe a sacrifice, perhaps you too can bring a demon into the world that can hunt that problem for you!
.
Dark Baptism
Have you found yourself in need of a little boost? Need a jumpstart to get yourself going? Through a ritual, you can be born anew in the blood of your Patron. Some would say that the ritual resonates through your very circuitry and leaves you feeling rejuvenated!
.
Cambionization
Perhaps you want to take matters into your own hands after the world has dealt you a raw setup. No matter! With devout pursuit in your Patrons desires? YOU can have the power of a demon invoked into your VERY VEINS!

And much more...
(Especially as development ensues)
A byproduct of his existence in their search for divination through their prayers and tribute. By becoming a cultist, you will find yourself serving the ultimate goal of your Patron. The world has grown corrupt by the very Sin it claims to rebuke and thus must be cleansed properly. To commit to such a task? Everything must End. It is an inevitability, and by motivating such by promoting or incurring the devastation afoot, or taunting the fragility of civilization's foundation? You can bring about that. It is said by invoking the End of everything, the eternal cycle can begin anew... A fresh breath of existence, where Sin no longer exists...
One Devoid of Death...
One Devoid of War...
Usque Terminus.
.
Pontifex
The highest ranking mortal member of the cult. They act as a High Priest in the name of Terminus. Grand rituals and large movements for the cult are typically at the behest of this individual. Due to their closeness to the Patron, it is said that they are constantly bathed in His blood to keep their bond pure.
.
Maledictus
A cursed preacher dedicated to spreading the dark teachings and prophecies of The End. They may deliver sermons and guide members deeper into the depths of the Dark Arts. It is said upon the dubbing of a Maledictus, the cultist is granted their very own Centricon manifested through the body of a sacrificed magi festering with Hatred.
.
Noctifer
Also known as "Nightbringers", they oversee the cult's tactical activities and night rituals. It is said that they are often dedicated to the task of cursing the land and pursuing the invocation of curses upon enemies of their Patron. Champions of Terminus, dubbed of his name are often bestowed such a title upon awakening.
.
Magister
These are masters and teachers of the cult, drawing forth new initiates and preserving the rites of the Herald's Oath. It is said that many dubbed of this title may oft be aspiring necromancers in pursuit of forbidden knowledge, though such has yet to be confirmed.
.
Insignis
Whether they had proven themselves worthy, desperate or willing to invoke a pact with the Patron? They earn themselves a mark in some way, shape, or form. This can be as menial as a distinguishing insignia ceremoniously grafted onto their body to as grandiose as a successful ascension ritual. It is claimed that even some non-magi have become awakened through such a ritual -- capable of enacting feats of revenge upon their enemies prior.
.
Famulus
Those who have heard the Call or have been drawn in by promises of riches, vitality, power, or more. They are relegated mostly to menial tasks, though it is not unheard of that they are sent out into the land to harass their enemies. Their loyalty is often proven through prayer. These members were often individuals tempted by a boon to draw them in, unintentionally invoking a pact with the Patron.
.
Those who find themselves invoking a pact with this Patron, whether intentional or otherwise but stray from the cult are dubbed of such a title. In some circumstances, some may even manage to become enemies of the cult itself -- but one thing remains constant. They have mingled themselves with Terminus in some way.
Perhaps, their magus awakening had come as a result of a ritual from the entity...
Perhaps their vitality was restored from a previously devastating status...
In some cases, you may even still find yourself drawn to Terminus, but intent on following in your way.
Your prayers might still be answered.
.
OOC Notes:
  • I don't mind if you're playing mains/alts, all that matters is that fun is had.
  • There is no pressure to play as a Cultist! By deciding to interface in this "Patron-Votaries" relationship, we're just developing a new means of "interacting with a demonic" entity.
  • If you were ever interested in a DnD-inspired "Patron-Warlock" sorta dynamic with a Hel-based entity PC, this is the RP for you!

  Dark Bargains

Whispers slither throughout the lands.
                                                                      _
Peasants gaining minor fortunes of wealth over night. Scholars and researchers mysteriously coming into the possession of mystical items they sought to research to explore it's wonders. Alchemists suddenly finding strange ingredients to create their perfect brew, artificers finally getting their hands onto metal not found in the markets... just the final pieces they need to make their magnum opuses and great crafts of the forge.
_
Small miracles performed throughout to the needy and the wanting, to have the things they'd never be able to reasonably get their hands on their lifetime.
_
Perhaps strange coincidence, though rumors point to a more tangible and darker source.
_
That these miracles of wealth or resources of magical power are drawn from the depths of a terrible beast's lair, gained through bargain by dealing with their Voice, Adamai.
_
Blasphemous and heretical sayings surely, to deal with black magic is unforgivable sin... so some say. But no one needs to know what deals are struck in the shadows, others challenge. Especially for one's own sake, to have what they need.
_
It is only a letter away to bargain for wealth or materials of potential to serve whatever whim one wants to, just one letter to Adamai.
_
Where is the harm in bargaining after all? If it means to have what you want?

  It lurks at night
Posted by: Iceshadow - 10-04-2024, 06:14 PM - Forum: In Character - Replies (2)

It lurks at night.

It reaps and harvests those innocent.

Man. Demon. Beast.

Progeny of Varrach.

Reports of a shadow demon, once insect now being spread around the land. It has no name known to that of the common folk of Meranthe.

Information on the elemental is scarce, only its hunting times are known. It exists at night exclusively. It refuses to hunt at dawn or past. The dusk hours of the day being its preferred rooting grounds. It carries no boundary nor preference on prey. Only that it has evolved rapidly to achieve where it is now.

Several individuals have gone permanently injured. Cattle, swine and farm animals being left eviscerated and gorged upon by the demon's endless hunger for growth and evolution.

All of these are rumors and nothing is confirmed besides people who have escaped its clutches.

Some say it took the arm of a young beastkin some time ago.

That its shattered the cores of wyverns mercilessly.

Out of all of this uncertainty, one thing is true.

It lurks only at night.

Quote:In the shadows, where the tall trees sway,
Little feet should never stray.
The woods will whisper, the winds will sigh,
If you listen close, you’ll hear them cry.

Run, run, while you can,
There’s something waiting in the land.
Eyes in the dark, teeth that gleam,
Is this real, or just a dream?

The moon is high, the night is cold,
There’s a story here, long and old.
Of children lost, who heard the call,
They wandered deep and now they crawl.

Run, run, don’t look back,
The shadows creep, they’re on your track.
A figure moves, you’re not alone,
Turn away, or turn to stone.

Can you hear the voice that hums,
Behind you now, the darkness drums?
Closer, closer, it will creep,
The woods are calling you to sleep...

Run, run, while you can,
Before the forest claims your hand.
Leaves will fall, the winds will scream,
Is this nightmare what it seems?

Hush now, child, close your eyes,
The forest sings its lullabies.
Sleep so deep, sleep so sound,
You’ll never wake… when you’re found.
