Nyx

Appearance[edit]
Nyx is prone to changing appearances on her manifestations, however she has always appeared distinctly feminine, typically with shadows clinging to her form, darkening the area around her as she arrives.
Personality[edit]
With her worshippers she strikes a distinctly loving tone, with her enemies, her tone is harsh and unforgiving. She refers to her worshippers as her children, and likens them to hunters in the dark, often encouraging them to be fierce and merciless. Still, she is not one without tough love, being completely willing to test her devoted ones to ensure they have the requisite strength for the tasks ahead.
Her known encounters with those who would oppose her are few and far between, but she’s been shown to have no mercy or pity for them. While she hasn’t been seen to enjoy inflicting harm upon them, if doing so will empower her chosen she will not hesitate in the slightest.
Worship[edit]
As a being primarily worshipped by Monsters, Nyx has positioned herself as the being that loves the outcasts and the unloved. In return, those who worship her often do so with an almost singleminded zeal, finding comfort in a strict us vs them mentality. Those who follow Nyx tend to be chaotic but typically trend towards the following patterns.
- The ritualistic shedding of blood, both their own and Nyx’s enemies. Some may choose to hold and store the blood for later rites meant to empower the Primordial or her faithful.
- The faith pushes the idea that in death one returns to Mother Nyx. As such, while one shouldn’t seek death, similarly one shouldn’t fear it.
- Nyx pushes her faithful to be hunters of the light, and as such, even the kindest acolytes finds those outside the faith to be their enemies.
- Nyx herself is often simply called Mother by adherents.
History[edit]
Pre-Shadowmire[edit]
Little is known about this time, only that Nyx herself was found deep within the Shadowmire, and was sleeping near the realm of Dreams, when the Monsters of the Mire journeyed to awaken her.
Shadowmire Era[edit]
Shortly after awakening, a Cult dedicated to Nyx was founded deep within the Mire. While it was ostensibly Monsters that ran it, its ability to sway people was made evident extremely quickly. The monsters immediately began to preach of their Mother to the students of Starfall Academy and beyond, drawing them into the Faith to bolster its numbers. Within the Mire its influence grew rapidly, bolstered by the students who were becoming adherents.
Its goals were often obfuscated by the seemingly random direction taken by various members. Some were more focused on conversion, spreading her word as long as there were those who would listen, while others simply seemed to spread chaos, fighting with anyone and everyone they found.
Nevertheless, the Cult grew in such power to be the dominant force of the Mire, the first leader of the Mire being the Leader of the Cult (Known as the Bloodmistress).
During this time, Nyx’s power grew rapidly. Upon being awoken she had barely the power to manifest herself, but the Monsters of the Mire undertook many tasks, and with the blood worship growing rapidly, Nyx’s strength reached a point where she could more directly interact. At the height of the initial era, she would occasionally heal the wounds of her servants, or grant them boons rivalling the witches of the Dark Lord. Those granted such Boons would become known as Seers.
Eventually this original sect would die off through a series of defeats, at the hands of the Vampires of Asphodel. The Cult would have varying influence over the following years, often flourishing and seceding with the rhythm of the Mire itself.
Post-Shadowmire[edit]
With the destruction of the Shadowmire, Nyx herself still lives, and the seeds of the Cult live on, carried most often by Monsters, although nowhere near the force it once was. Still, there remains almost constantly at least one devout worshipper of Nyx trying to carry on her will at all times.
